Each day, we work to help protect vision and support the eye health of our patients, with the aim of improving quality of life.

Thank you for the continued trust placed in our care.

Eyes feeling sore and strained from staring at screens all day?
You are probably experiencing digital eye strain.
Try the 20-20-20 rule
For every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet (6 metres) away for at least 20 seconds
This simple habit helps relax your eye muscles, reducing strain and fatigue caused by too much screen time.

Are you a contact lens wearer?
When was your last eye check?

Even if your lenses feel great and your vision seems fine, it’s very important to have a yearly eye exam to make sure your lenses are still the right fit and your eyes are healthy!

Think all sunglasses are made equal? Think again!

Myth Three: All sunglasses protect your eyes from UV rays

Fact: Darker lenses don't always mean UV protection. In Australia look for sunglasses that meet the Australian Standard (AS/NZS 1067.1) and block 95-100% of UV.

Did you know that Diabetes can affect your eyes?

Diabetes can affect your eyes and may lead to:
~ Bleeding at the back of the eye (diabetic retinopathy)
~ Swelling of the back of the eye (diabetic macular oedema)
~ Faster progression of cataracts
~ Fluctuating vision with changes in blood sugar levels

Having good blood sugar control and regular eye checks with your optometrist are key to protect your eyesight.

NOTE: Dilating drops will be used as part of the diabetic eye exam

Heard this one before?

Myth Two: Wearing glasses makes your eyes dependant and weaker over time

Fact: Glasses don't make your eyes weaker, they simply correct how you see. Not wearing them when needed can actually lead to eyestrain and headaches. Sometimes we don't realise how blurry our life was until we see the new clarity with our glasses.

Let’s clear a few things up 👀

There are plenty of myths you may have heard across the grapevine that can affect how we think about and care for our vision.

Swipe through as we bust common eye-care misconceptions and share the facts you need to support your vision with confidence.

Myth One: "I don't need an eye test until I notice a problem"

Fact: Many eye conditions develop slowly and without obvious symptoms. Regular eye exams help detect issues early even before you notice changes in your vision.

Check in next Monday for another Myth Bust!

Myopia (short-sightedness) is more than just blurry distance vision. It occurs when the eyeball grows longer than normal.

This can increase the risk of eye conditions such as retina detachment and glaucoma.

Standard glasses can help make vision clearer, but they do not prevent the growth of the eye. There are special lenses to help slow down the changes of myopia.

That’s why if your child is short-sighted, it is important to have regular eye checks with an optometrist so we can intervene early and monitor closely.

Did you know your tears are made up of three layers?

The oily layer (top layer) is to prevent the watery layer from drying up too quickly.

The watery layer (middle layer) is to provide moisture and nutrients, and to protect the eye from infection.

The mucus layer (bottom layer) is to help the tears stay stable on the surface of the eye.
