🦒 Spending time with animals and in nature is more than just fun - it’s a boost for our wellbeing! Being around animals can lower stress, lift our mood, and help us feel more present and connected.

Our recent visit to the Adelaide Zoo was filled with laughter, learning, and plenty of moments to pause and appreciate the incredible wildlife that shares our world.

A great Support Coordinator doesn’t just understand the NDIS, they understand people.

They listen deeply, show genuine care, and take the time to truly get to know each participant’s story, strengths, and challenges.

Empathy allows them to see beyond the paperwork - to notice when someone’s having a tough day, to celebrate the small wins, and to offer encouragement when things feel overwhelming.

It’s this compassion that builds trust, strengthens relationships, and ensures that your support services are relevant and effective.

Looking for a Support Coordinator who genuinely cares? We'd love to hear from you.

This month remember to:

🌼 Start your mornings mindfully - Take five quiet, technology-free minutes before the day begins to stretch, journal, or simply breathe. A calm start can set the tone for a more focused, positive day.
🥗 Refresh your meals - As the weather warms up, swap out heavier dishes for light, fresh options like grain bowls, fruit-filled salads, or wraps. Your body (and energy levels) will thank you.
🌻 Declutter - Before the year ends, review what’s working and what’s not, whether that's habits, commitments, even digital clutter. Clear out and let go of the clutter!
🎧 Create a “feel-good” playlist - Music is a powerful mood shifter. Find songs that make you feel energised, calm, or motivated and play them during your morning routine

Taking care of your physical and mental health doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By keeping these simple tips in mind, you’ll be amazed at how much of a difference small, consistent steps can make.

Looking after your well-being doesn’t have to be complicated – small and intentional actions can go a long way. Try applying the following in your everyday life, and watch the difference that practical well-being tips can make:

✨ Set healthy boundaries to protect your energy
🌳 Connect with nature to reset your mind
😴 Prioritise rest - your body and brain need it
🎨 Make time to be creative - even if it's just doodling!
🚶 Move your body in ways that feel good
🤝 Spend time with people who uplift you
🪞 Practice self-reflection to stay grounded
🌟 Explore what gives you purpose and meaning

Well-being isn’t one-size-fits-all, find what works for you and take it one step at a time.

When interacting with people with disabilities, small actions can make a big difference in making everyone feel seen, heard, and valued. Here are a few ways to show respect and build genuine connection:

✅ Adjust your posture to be at eye level - This shows you’re present and engaged, and helps create a comfortable space for conversation.

✅ Have a normal conversation - Speak as you would with anyone else. Don’t over-simplify or assume.

✅ Make proper eye contact - It’s a sign of respect and shows you’re listening.

✅ Speak directly to the person - Not their support worker, family member or companion. Every person deserves to have their voice heard.

✅ Find common ground - Whether it’s music, sport, hobbies or favourite foods - shared interests bring us closer together.

✅ Don’t victimise - People with disabilities are not defined by their challenges. Focus on strengths, individuality, and shared humanity.

True inclusion starts with awareness and everyday respect.

We’re so overjoyed to share this heartwarming testimonial - and adorable photos - from one of our amazing SLES participants! 🐾💕

School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) is an NDIS-funded program that helps young people build the skills and confidence they need to move from school into the workforce, and for this participant, that journey has led to a dream volunteer role at Sassy’s Cat Café! ☕🐱

We're so proud to walk alongside her on this journey, and can’t wait to see what’s next!

Why is taking care of your mental health so important?

#2 - Mental health enhances relationships ❤️

When you're in a good place mentally, it's easier to communicate clearly, manage emotions, and build strong, healthy connections with the people around you. Whether it’s with family, friends, or support workers, mental wellbeing helps relationships thrive.

Looking after your mind helps you show up more fully for others and even more importantly, yourself.

This is part 2 in our 5-part series on why mental health matters. Stay tuned for reason number 3!

A great Support Coordinator doesn't just have knowledge, they have a strong network. They know how to find the right services, access the right supports, and navigate the system with creativity and determination.

Whether it’s connecting someone with a local therapist, finding inclusive community activities, or tracking down that one service that’s hard to get into, they know how to make things happen.

It’s this mix of resourcefulness and relationship-building that helps participants achieve goals, overcome barriers, and feel genuinely supported.

🌿 An unused patch of ground at Wandana Community Centre has been given a new lease on life, transformed into a vibrant "Healing Garden" filled with herbs and plants known for their medicinal and therapeutic properties.

This beautiful addition to the community garden was sparked by the vision of one of our connexion_one participants - Nick. With a deep passion for horticulture and the support of a close companion, Nick attends weekly gardening sessions - bringing not only enthusiasm but also plants he has lovingly propagated at home.

Nick's contribution goes beyond just plants, he’s helped create a space that nurtures both body and mind. For him, the garden is more than a hobby; it’s a source of healing, connection, and community.

Here are a few simple ways to care for your mental and physical health this month:

🧹 Spring clean your space - A tidy environment can help clear your mind and reduce stress.
🚶 Move your body daily - Whether it’s a gentle walk, stretching in your seat, or dancing in your lounge room, regular movement lifts your mood and boosts energy.
📵 Take a digital break - Step away or limit your screen time this month. Try reading a book or journaling.
🌿 Try a new self-care practice - October 10th is World Mental Health Day. Take this as an opportunity to practice self-care. Try caring for some indoor plants, catch up with a friend, or treat yourself to a spa day.

Taking care of yourself doesn’t need to be complicated, just consistent.
