Saving Money in the Lead-Up to Christmas 🎄

The festive season can get expensive fast but a little planning now can make a big difference later! Here are some simple ways to stretch your budget before Christmas:

🎁 Set a spending limit – Decide how much you can comfortably spend on gifts, food and events — and stick to it.
🛒 Start early – Grab sales when you see them and spread purchases out to avoid last-minute splurges.
🍽️ Plan your meals – Write shopping lists and avoid overbuying — leftovers are your friend!
🎨 DIY gifts – Handmade cards, baked treats or photo memories can be more meaningful (and affordable).
👫 Suggest a Secret Santa – It cuts down costs while keeping the fun of giving.

Small changes now can take the stress out of the holidays and help you enjoy the season for what it’s really about connection, not cost. ❤️

Having people around you who understand your journey can make a big difference. Building a support network helps you feel connected, confident and supported, whether it’s through a social club, hobby group or peer network.

Here are a few local ways to get started:
Join a local club or group - check out Maitland City Council’s community groups.

Building Everyday Skills for Independence

Small steps each day can lead to big changes over time. Developing everyday skills helps NDIS participants gain confidence, independence, and a stronger sense of control in their lives.

Here are a few simple ways to start building independence through daily routines:
Set small goals – Start with one new task at a time, like making breakfast or managing your own schedule.
Create a routine – Having structure helps build consistency and confidence.
Use visual reminders – Checklists or picture schedules can make tasks easier to follow.
Practice problem-solving – Encourage trying things differently if something doesn’t work the first time.
Celebrate progress – Every achievement, big or small, deserves recognition!

Our Support Coordinators can help you find programs and supports that encourage skill-building, from cooking and budgeting to personal care and community participation.

You have rights under the NDIS and they matter.

Every NDIS participant has the right to be heard, respected, and supported to make their own choices. You have the right to:
Be treated with dignity and respect
Choose who provides your supports
Feel safe and have your privacy protected
Receive quality services that meet your needs
Speak up if something isn’t right

If you ever feel your needs aren’t being met or your voice isn’t heard, independent advocacy services can help. Advocates are there to stand beside you, helping you understand your rights, make complaints, or request reviews when needed.

We believe in empowering participants to use their voice and make informed decisions about their supports.

Need guidance? Talk to us we can connect you with trusted advocacy services in your area.

Thinking of moving out of home?

If you’re ready to take the next step towards independence, Supported Independent Living (SIL) might be the perfect option.

SIL funding helps NDIS participants who need extra support with daily living tasks, such as:

Cooking, cleaning, and managing routines
Personal care and medication support
Building skills to live more independently
Overnight or 24/7 assistance if needed

SIL can be used in a shared home, your own place with support, or other supported living arrangements, designed around your goals and lifestyle.

At iCoordinate, our Support Coordinators can help you understand your SIL options, find the right provider, and create a living setup that feels like home.
