🌿Yesterday, our NDIS Pathways team hosted a Picnic Day for families and participants at Social Community and Creative Pathways, John Street.

It was a fun, relaxed and a great opportunity for people to connect in a way that works for everyone.

We had a delicious sausage sizzle and plenty of good company, plus a special appearance from The Pretty Amazing Jono kept things entertaining 🪄

A big thank you to Bakers Delight for supporting the day, and to all the beautiful families, participants and team members who came along.

This morning, Mai-Wel hosted our International Women's Day event 🌟

Facilitated by Mai-Wel's own Belinda McNab, our panellists Felicity Laczina, Deb Mirisch and Jennifer Leslie spoke with honesty and generosity about leadership, opportunity and showing up for each other.

A few things that stayed with us:

💜 Opportunity does not always come from luck. Make time for it and step outside your comfort zone.
💜 Surround yourself with great people, ask for help, and back yourself.
💜 Advocate for people who are not in the room and acknowledge their contributions.
💜 Networking is not about how many people you know. It's about how many people know you.
💜 Be kind to yourself and compliment each other more.

🚖 Oliver is building real independence, one taxi trip at a time

Oliver has been working on 1:1 capacity building goals with Mai-Wel, focusing on the skills he needs to travel confidently in the community.

With practice and the right supports in place, Oliver has been building his routine. He is learning to communicate with drivers, manage his travel budget, and follow a door-to-door process calmly and confidently.

A huge milestone is that Oliver can now pay for his taxi fare using vouchers and his cash card. This is a proud moment and a meaningful step toward greater choice and control in everyday life🙌

Oliver’s goal is to travel from home to Mai-Wel in Cessnock and back again independently, and he is well on his way🌟

🎨✨ Emily and Di are regulars in our Monday Mindful Making group, and it has been wonderful watching their friendship grow over time.

Each week, they take part in mindfulness and art-based activities that support self-expression, creativity and positive relationships. These shared experiences have created space for connection, laughter and genuine support.

Recently, the two worked together to design custom photo frames, choosing to include a picture of themselves to celebrate the friendship they have built 🖼️

It was a simple but meaningful way to capture a bond that has formed through consistency, creativity and time spent together.

We love seeing the authentic connections that grow through our Social, Community and Creative Pathways supports💛

A large-scale project delivered in partnership between Pacific National and Varley Group has proudly been supported by the team at Mai-Wel Enterprises 🚆

Our supported employees contributed to key components of the wagon restoration project, working with precision and care to ensure everything met high quality standards. Yesterday, members of the team had the opportunity to visit the Varley site and see the some of pieces come together on the wagons, which was a proud moment for everyone involved!

Being able to witness the finished outcome reinforced the value of their work and the important role social enterprise plays in large industry partnerships.

Projects like this demonstrate the capability, reliability and skill of our workforce, while creating meaningful employment opportunities.

👋 Meet Danielle Jacobs, a Job Coach with our Mai-Wel Academy team.

Danielle first came into the disability sector through a Plan Manager role and quickly discovered a passion for supporting people. Moving into face-to-face participant support confirmed she was exactly where she was meant to be!

A recent highlight was seeing an Academy Prep participant gain employment with a business Danielle had approached about work experience. Watching that partnership turn into a real job and seeing the participant’s confidence grow made it a proud moment.

“𝘍𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘗𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦” in Danielle’s work looks like building strong community links with local businesses and creating practical pathways through programs like Academy Prep and Friday Social. She values consistent groups where people feel comfortable, friendships grow and supports can be tailored to each person.

Danielle also loves using simple online learning tools to keep sessions engaging and matched to each participant’s interests. After work, she switches off with a walk with her border collie Molly or some baking in the kitchen 🐾
