Continuing the Matung Kunarr journey our home of Child and Family services at Unit 1/5 Anlaby St in Maitland is getting a new name – Kunarr Kuwama

These Wonnarua words mean ‘community gathers together’ which represents the children and young people we care for and those in our Sista Circle and Yarn Up Men’s Group.

We Care NSW has been built on a foundation of providing choice for our clients, our participants and our programs. This is why the continual enhancement of the experience consumers and stakeholders have with the interactions with our staff members. We are strengthening this by obtaining feedback on a regular basis and creating a website form to provide feedback, suggestions and complaints.

We Care NSW was first established with a driving forces to lead the provision of culturally appropriate care for Aboriginal people. This is the focus of the second Strategic Intention on our Strategic Plan.

We are proud that over the past few years we have become members of AbSec and ACWA and continue to provide cadetships for Aboriginal Psychologists. As the first scholarship supporting Indigenous Psychologists at the University of Newcastle we are so excited to have extended this offering for a further three years starting in 2027.

It’s been a big year for meeting our Strategic Intention relating to staff and workplace culture. The goals in this area relate to ensuring a safe and supportive working environment whilst attracting, developing and retaining competent, capable staff that culturally fit our values. Our achievements include:

• Releasing our Aboriginal Workforce Strategy - Nyumbah Garihma - with the full support of the Aboriginal Advisory Group
• Internships and job placements continue to support Master of Professional Psychology and Clinical Master students
• Our Work Health Safety Management Plan has been completed and implemented
• Developed capability matrix to support development of Leadership and Governance members to build the skills of those leading the organisation
