When you say it out loud it sounds perfectly practical and makes total sense…But there are SO many parents and caregivers [outside of those who are required by law as part of their profession] who have not attended a first aid course or who do not know CPR for an infant and child 🤯

I would LOVE to see first aid and CPR training a normal part of the getting-baby-ready process.

Both a parent and caregiver should feel prepared and less anxious about what to do in both non emergency medical situations [think illnesses, fever, etc] AND emergency situations.

There’s nothing to lose, everything to gain and guaranteed better outcomes for medical scenarios in your little ones ➕✨

Here are the essential dos and don’ts to keep you, your family, and your pets protected during snake season 🐍

Remember: you never need to handle a snake yourself. A professional is only a phone call away 🤳🏻🚙

Snake safety is outside my scope of practice, so Gianni from Hodgson’s Snakes has kindly shared what to do if you see a snake, read the full blog on our website 📝

If your little one is receiving a bike, scooter or skateboard this Christmas, don’t forget the helmet ⛑️

If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know that I am incredibly strict on this topic! NO HELMET = NO BIKE in our home.

🚲 Teach children from a young age how their helmet helps to protect their brain.
🧠 I find telling them in a way that is tailored to their interests can be helpful.
🦸 For example ‘your helmet is like your own special superhero that protects your brain’

⚠️ You should ensure that the child’s helmet that meets the Australian Standard AS/NZS 2063. This should be displayed on both the packaging and the helmet itself.

Christmas with little ones is the biggest joy and seeing their faces light up with the magic of Christmas is…magic ✨🎄

In the chaos of Christmas morning please remember the common choking hazards that you may find with small objects, new toys and play equipment.

Always follow the age recommendations on toys for young babies and toddlers as anything labeled “not suitable for children under 3” means there are parts that pose as a choking risk.

Administering choking first aid on a baby or young child is terrifying - which is why we firmly believe that knowledge is power and knowing how to react in the case of a choking emergency is invaluable.

You can attend one of our in person first aid courses, or purchase our $20 online choking masterclass to build confidence, knowledge and skills in learning how to manage a choking emergency ➕🚨

Here’s the wiggly truth all parents need to know about 🪱 WORMS in kids! What’s the deal?

Swipe across to read all the wormy facts ⬇️

⚡ Fun fact - Ringworm and threadworm are not the same thing, ringworm is actually not a worm at all…it is a fungus that needs to be treated with anti-fungal medications.

Keep calm, treat the whole family, clean and those wiggly unwelcome guests will pack their (microscopic) bags in no time 👋🏻

What makes a snake bit bandage different from a normal bandage? 🤔💭

A snake bit bandage is perfect for the use of the pressure immobilisation technique - used for Australian Snake bites 🐍 Funnel Webbed Spider bites 🕷️ Blue Ringed Octopus 🐙and Cone Shell 🐚 stings.

It is wider and longer than most bandages and has continuous indicators to ensure you have the correct pressure over the entire limb - unstretched, the indicators are rectangle in shape, when stretched with the correct tension they are square, making it a fantastic visual indicator 👀 to know how much pressure to apply.

You can find these snake bit bandages in all of our first aid kits (including a snake bite specific first aid kit) as well as individually online if you need to stock up an existing kit 🙌🏻
