CBT and ACT are just two of the treatment approaches we use at NLC Psychology. We love this great comparison by Contextual Consulting. 🧠

While CBT and ACT are both forms of psychotherapy and share similarities, they have distinct theoretical frameworks and treatment approaches. It’s important to understand that CBT and ACT are not mutually exclusive, and therapists may integrate elements of both approaches based on the individual’s needs and the nature of the presenting problems.

Today is World Mental Health Day 💚
This year’s theme is “Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies,"" and it reminds us how vital support is during life's most difficult moments.

At NLC Psychology, we’re proud to play our part in building a world where mental health care is accessible to all, especially when it's needed most.

Good advice here from SA Health

In the midst of distressing world or local events, there are many ways to show up for others while still taking care of your own mental health.

Staying informed is important, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of your wellbeing. Taking a break from the 24/7 news cycle doesn’t mean you don’t care.

If news coverage of recent events is causing you to experience more stress, anxiety, or other negative feelings right now, there are strategies that can help support your mental wellbeing.

These can include:
✔️ limiting your exposure to news
✔️ taking breaks from social media to recharge
✔️ making time for self-care
✔️ talking to friends or family.

If you or anyone you know needs support, help is available.

🌿 Living with chronic pain or a long-term health condition can impact your daily life and sense of wellbeing. While psychology can’t remove pain, therapy can help by:
✔️ Shifting unhelpful thought patterns
✔️ Reducing distress
✔️ Supporting you to live more fully

At NLC Psychology, we also work closely with physiotherapists at Move for Better Health, offering collaborative and tailored care for people with conditions such as hypermobility, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and dysautonomia (including POTS).

You don’t have to manage it all alone — support is here. 💙

👉 On R U OK? Day - and every day - let’s remind the people in our lives: “I’m here to hear.”

This year’s theme, “I’m here to hear”, is a gentle reminder that sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is simply listen.

You don’t need the perfect words or all the answers; just being present and showing someone you care can make a real difference. 💛

At NLC Psychology, we see every day how meaningful conversations can support mental health and wellbeing. A check-in, a pause, and an open ear can help someone feel less alone.
