Having guides like this for difficult conversations can be helpful for staying 'on track' with the goal of repairing a relationship. ☺️

Most apologies don't land because they're actually about making the person apologizing feel better, not about genuinely addressing what happened.

A real apology names exactly what you did wrong, not "I'm sorry you're upset." It acknowledges the impact without minimizing it. It takes full responsibility without the word "but." It states one specific thing you'll do differently going forward. And then it proves that commitment through consistent, changed behavior over time.

The apology is just the opening. What comes after is what actually matters.

Words without action aren't accountability. They're just conflict management.

Today for the 10th year, Waringarri Arts is choosing to reject the Australia Day public holiday by coming in to work.

“Today, Indigenous people live together with non-Indigenous people in Australia. We were clearly separated before. Now we share the same country.

Waringarri Arts, its staff, and artists do not celebrate Australia Day on January 26th because it is a day of sorrow, pain, and loss for us. We lost many of our leaders from that day forward. We lost power and ownership of this country, and the deep understanding of how we as Aboriginal people belong and connect to this land.

We consider this to be a day of mourning for our people. We believe that the date should be changed to a date that will include and unite all Australians.”

The art centre will be open today as normal from 8.30am-4.30pm. Everyone is welcome.
