Heart disease is the second leading cause of death in women, and the symptoms are not always obvious.

Many women do not experience the classic crushing chest pain. Instead, symptoms can be more subtle. Pain may occur in the neck, jaw, shoulder, upper back or abdomen, and is often described as tightness or pressure. Some women experience shortness of breath, nausea, sweating or dizziness instead of chest pain.

Knowing the signs matters.

Our comprehensive Heart Health Check helps you understand your personal risk of heart attack or stroke over the next five years and provides clear, practical steps to reduce that risk. Prevention starts with awareness, and a simple check could make all the difference.

We're excited to be hosting a new cohort of Rural Clinical School medical students in Manjimup throughout 2026.

Throughout the year a medical student will be in the practice most days, learning alongside our GPs, nurses, and allied health team to experience first hand what rural, community-based healthcare really looks like.

Having students in the practice allows us to support the future rural workforce, foster a culture of teaching and learning and deliver thoughtful, well-supervised team based-care to our community.

We're proud to play a part in shaping the next generation of rural doctors.

Tomorrow morning, Wednesday 4th March, we will be having a team clinical meeting. Our front reception and phones will be closed, but we will be back in the practice and answering calls from 1pm. We will have an option to leave a voicemail and we can call you back once we are in.

These meetings help us to workshop our services, identify gaps, make improvements and share knowledge between our entire team so you receive the most up to date and well thought out care experience. Thanks for your understanding! 🩺❤️

They’re back!

After a year in Perth for anaesthetic training, Dr Aaron and Christine are returning to rural healthcare and joining the Praxis family!

Dr Aaron will be a GP at Praxis and will also provide ED and anaesthetic services at the hospital. Christine will join our nursing team on Thursdays and Fridays, while also continuing her work at the hospital.

We are so excited to welcome them home to our community. They’ve been missed, and we know they’ll hit the ground running!

Appointments with Dr Aaron are available from March. You can book online or call our admin team on 9772 1108.

Kids ask... we answer!

“Why do people get anxiety?”

One of our littlest interviewers asks a big question, and our Clinical Psychologist, Gideon, explains why anxiety happens and how doctors can help.

We’ll be sharing more of these each month. Real questions, real answers.

February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Ovarian cancer is often diagnosed late because symptoms can be subtle and easily overlooked, and there is no simple screening test. This makes knowing your body and recognising changes especially important.

Symptoms can include persistent bloating, abdominal or pelvic pain, feeling full quickly or losing your appetite, changes in bowel habits, urinary urgency or frequency, and unexplained fatigue. These symptoms are common and are usually not serious. However, if they are new, persistent, or getting worse, it is important to speak with your GP.

At Praxis Medical, we encourage women to trust their instincts, ask questions, and seek care early. You are never “wasting a doctor’s time” by checking something that feels different.

The word praxis means applying theory in a practical way. It is about taking knowledge and skills and putting them into action.

For us, this is the difference between good healthcare and great healthcare. We spend a decade, or more, training in our professions, but what truly matters is how well we use what we have learned to diagnose, treat, manage, and communicate with patients.

Our vision at Praxis Medical is to provide premium, modern, community-focused healthcare to our region. To achieve this, we need to be more than knowledgeable. We bring together healthcare professionals who value collaboration, curiosity, and continuous improvement, and who take the time to listen, explain, and adapt care to each individual.

At Praxis Medical, healthcare is not just about knowing the right answer. It is about applying evidence with care, skill, and humanity in real conversations, real decisions, and real lives.

That is praxis.

Ginie has been part of the Praxis team as a casual fill-in, and from February she will be with us every Tuesday, supporting our team to deliver high-quality healthcare to our patients.

Alongside her work at Praxis, Ginie also works at the local hospital, bringing a wealth of experience from Emergency and ward-based care. Her collaborative, proactive, and team-focused approach to nursing fits perfectly with the values at Praxis Medical.

We’re thrilled to have Ginie as a regular part of the team and know our patients will benefit from her experience and care.

Schools and childcare centres require an updated anaphylaxis and allergy action plan every 12 months, and renewing this plan with your GP is essential for your child’s safety.

Children’s allergies can change over time, including their triggers, the severity of reactions, and the treatment they require. Medication doses and brands may also be adjusted as a child grows, so staff need accurate, current instructions.

National ASCIA guidelines are updated regularly, and action plans must reflect the latest recommendations to ensure the correct emergency steps are followed.

Annual reviews also confirm that EpiPens and other medications are in date and effective. Keeping plans current ensures schools can respond quickly and safely in an emergency.
