The holiday glow doesn’t reach everyone. For many people, the festive season can amplify feelings of loneliness.

It’s a great time to check in with your mates and have a yarn. For people who are struggling, a simple phone call or coffee can often make a real difference.

For many, the festive season is the happiest time of the year. But for nearly one in three Australians, it is a period marked by loneliness. Australian men say they are lonelier than ever, with more than half meeting the criteria for loneliness.

For anyone who might be feeling the weight of the season, please remember that you aren’t alone. This festive season, we encourage you to reach out to those around you. Whether it is checking in on a mate or seeking support for yourself, staying connected is vital during a period that can feel extra lonely for some.

If you or someone you know needs immediate support, please reach out:
- Lifeline: 13 11 14
- Beyond Blue: 1300 22 4636
- 13YARN: 13 92 76

Wishing everyone in our community a safe, and happy holiday period.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the terrible attack at Bondi Beach yesterday. We condemn this violence in the strongest possible terms, and our hearts go out to all those impacted, including the wider community who are feeling the shock and sadness today.

It’s important to remember that everyone responds to tragedy differently. If you’re struggling, feeling anxious, or just need someone to talk to, please reach out: to a mate, a family member, or a support service like Lifeline (13 11 14), Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636) and MensLine Australia (1300 78 99 78). You’re not alone, and there’s no right or wrong way to feel.

Let’s stand together, support one another, and keep the lines of conversation open. It’s OK to talk about how you’re feeling. We’re here for each other.

Today, Mentoring Men is celebrating our 7th birthday, while recognising the wonderful men of our community to mark International Men’s Day! 💙

For seven years, we’ve been dedicated to building a nationwide mentorship movement, empowering men to show up for themselves, their communities, and their families.

Some highlights from the last 12 months include:
- Commissioning research and publishing the Men Do Talk report. It confirmed that 66% of men are open to mentoring, but most don’t know where to turn for support.
- Using this data to lead the conversation about men’s mental health, presenting our findings in a formal submission to the ACT Government's Inquiry into Men's Su***de Rates and being recognised in the NSW Inquiry into Loneliness.
- Publishing two white papers to drive conversation on mentoring's proven impact, funding needs, and the necessity of engaging men in effective family and domestic violence prevention and early intervention
- Teaming up with The Man Walk and Channel 7 to launch the Meet A Mate challenge, getting men out the door and with their mates.
- Continuing to deliver on our mission, supporting men across Australia with our free, one-to-one mentoring service.

As we reflect on a huge year, we’d like to take a moment to say thank you to all of you, our fantastic community. Thank you for being on this journey with us. Happy International Men's Day!

How often have you said, "We have to catch up soon"... and suddenly, it's six months later?

Life gets busy. Time flies. But our connections can't be left to chance.

Aussie men are lonely, and we know that a simple, regular catch-up is the best way to combat that.

Don't let it slide. Let's make connection a habit.

Your challenge: Tag a mate below and lock in your next catch-up. Don't leave it for 'sometime'. Make it a habit.

We were absolutely delighted to attend the Camden Mental Health Expo last Saturday. Thanks to the Rotary Club for inviting us along, and for organising and hosting such a great community event.

Proud mentors Scott Liddel and Adam Grant volunteered their time and answered questions about how Mentoring Men’s free program supports men to navigate life’s challenges before they reach a tipping point.

It was a privilege to hear from so many great mental health advocates, including the touching personal experience shared by three times Olympic swimming medalist Daniel Kowalski.

Local events like this help us meet men where they live and connect, build trust and encourage seeking help before crisis point. We’re so grateful to everyone who stopped by to say hello.

Content warning: This post discusses su***de and mental health statistics that may be confronting.

It's the final week of October, but this is a conversation that can't stop so… we are extending the Meet A Mate challenge.

Over half (53%) of Australian men aged 35-50 meet the criteria for loneliness. We can't keep letting our mates 'push through on their own'.

Loneliness is a critical health crisis, with lonely men around twice as likely to have suicidal thoughts.

A simple chat can change a life.

Send that text. Make that call. Let's show up for our mates.

Sign up or donate to the Meet A Mate challenge at meetamate.org.au to help us raise vital funds for men's mental health.

A heartfelt thank you to Zali Steggall for your powerful acknowledgment of Mentoring Men in Parliament on Wednesday 🙏

Your call for greater government investment to meet the growing demand for men’s support and domestic violence prevention services is both timely and vital.

At Mentoring Men we stand with, not apart from, victim survivor services. Safety, recovery and justice must always come first.

But if we want to stop violence before it starts, we also need to invest in prevention.

That means engaging men early, building skills, and supporting change before harm occurs.

Our approach meets men where they are — in their communities, through genuine connection and trust. We help men explore beliefs and behaviours without shame while still promoting accountability and growth.

As Zali highlighted, the demand for services like ours is need more now than ever before.

With stable and ongoing funding, we can mentor more men, build prevention capacity, and help create safer families and stronger communities across Australia.

Because when men are supported to be healthier and more self aware, everyone benefits 💙
