A day of remembrance, reflection and gratitude 🇦🇺

While I didn’t ride this year, I was still up for the dawn to honour our Anzacs.
Lest we forget

A day of firsts for Flash.
His first night in a rug and first farrier trim in the morning!

Come at me all you want about rugging vs not rugging in the winter, but we’re not in the wild here and it’s not survival of the fittest in my paddocks.

Horses that are comfortable and not just surviving, are much happier horses.
This brings me so much happiness knowing I’ll be able to keep him cozy and warm in our alpine winter ❄️

Life in the country lately 🍂🌱🪵🔥
Mornings and nights have become cold
Days are cooler but pleasant
Rugs are starting to go on the horses in the evenings
The grass is getting greener
Everyone feels fresh with the change of season
Leaves are turning the brilliant shades of Autumn
The house fire is being lit, beloved pets sharing its warmth
Horses are growing winter coats
Going to the gym requires more motivation
The sun is rising earlier
Sunny days are cherished
Bonfires shared with friends
7pm feels like 9pm
Cups of tea in the evening

I love this time of year!

Part 2: the importance of taking your horse for a walk in hand.

*Note: I was able to hop on and walk back home, but it took helping him through a few things first. Still wasn’t a perfect ride but it was a drop in the confidence bucket for us

Enjoy my crazy hair thanks to the rain and my slight black eye 🫠
Moral of the story: ‼️it’s NOT a cop out to take your horse out on the trails in hand if you sense they’re feeling anxious‼️
If more people took their horse for a walk like they took their dogs, a lot of accidents could be prevented.
We want to be adding to our confidence buckets, not draining them

(Thanks to my jacket for keeping me dry)
