Last night, we watched the sun go down on our daughter's teenage years. Today she turns TWENTY!
I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic and I love to make simple things special, so I planned a wee little evening of joy - partly to acknowledge our amazing girl, and partly to high-five hubby and I for keeping the kid alive for 20 years!
We enjoyed a meal at the boat harbour - the breeze was calmed by the protection of the boardwalk, the sun shone, still high in the sky, and we lazed on a picnic rug soaking up the rays, the scenery, and each other's company.
Then we grabbed a hot choccy and walked next door to the beach-side of Hillarys to view the reds, golds, and ambers of the setting sun as it sailed into the horizon.
What a treat!
Dinner by the water on a week night after work chaos and peak hour traffic.
It didn't feel like a week night.
It was almost like being on holiday.
And it reminded me... that it's so easy to get bogged down by our weekly routine, frantically getting dinner on the table, juggling after school sports, stressed from a hectic day, and on a mission to get the evening events done and dusted to park on the couch to recuperate.
Taking a moment to breathe in, and exhale.
Sharing a meal outdoors, picnic style.
Watching the sun go down in all its glory and majesty.
Sitting there, surrounded by my favourite peeps with a grateful heart.
This is the stuff that heals.
This is a recipe for joy.
This is the kind of practise that aids digestion, feeds the soul, and levels out the stress.
I've said it before:
It's not just about *what* you eat.
It's also about *where* you eat, *how* you eat, and *who* you eat with.
Liking the vibe?
Share with your crew - set a date, and enjoy a relaxed meal that fills your heart with all the good things.
