Today we introduce our hardworking, fabulous Finance Officer Karin who has been with Dovida (formerly Home Instead) for 3.5 years.

"At Dovida, I support our team, our clients, and the business by managing end-to-end accounts receivable for all brokered, private, Home Care Package, NDIS, and WorkCover clients, as well as overseeing all accounts payable, financial reporting, and reconciliations to ensure smooth and compliant financial operations within our business."

What do you enjoy about your role at Dovida BNC?
I enjoy the variety and impact of my role at Dovida — supporting both the team and our clients by ensuring accurate financial processes, while contributing to the care and wellbeing of individuals within the aged care system. Being part of a team that makes a real difference in people's lives is incredibly rewarding.

How long in the Aged Care and Disability sector? 3.5 years

Hobbies or extra-curricular activities you enjoy?
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love live music of all genres, gardening, going on holidays and crocheting.

Something interesting about yourself: When I travel, I have a quirky hobby of hunting down old leadlight glass windows. It's like a treasure hunt for colourful stories hidden in glass.

Favourite food: Italian

Favourite holiday destination: Seminyak, Bali

What you are most looking forward to in regard Support at Home:
Ultimately, I'm looking forward to seeing more clients/individuals empowered to live independently and comfortably in their own homes for longer. I look forward to ensuring financial processes are seamless with the new changes to ensure clients feel supported. It's exciting to be part of a system that prioritizes support and improves the wellbeing of our clients and community.

Our in-office sweeps were taken out by Care Manager Tzeni and Care Admin Kym - their shout for coffee! Client Experience Manager Jo took out the Wooden Spoon in the $2 sweeps and Finance Officer Karin in the $5 sweeps.

At Dovida our Caregiver visits are varied. Whilst we meet our client's assessed care needs with personal care, domestic assistance, shopping, linen and laundry services, meal preparation, we also provide Community Access.

This week our Caregiver David accompanied Dovida clients Ken and Eileen to the Petrie Museum at Old Petrie Town which is open Wednesdays to Sundays. They found it interesting and enjoyed all the displays, information and outing.

For those who prefer group outings, we have the Dovida Clubs and Silver Socials. Speak to your Care Manager to discuss how we can get you out and about. Did you know the research shows those who stay socially connected (as well as move more) not only live longer lives, they live healthier and happier lives of purpose. A little bit of excitement in the Dovida Brisbane North and Caboolture office this afternoon as the heaven's opened and the hail fell. Almost looked like it had snowed in Margate!

It has been an extremely busy month for our entire Dovida Brisbane North and Caboolture Team - aka Office of the Year! Our Care Manager Hazel-Anne enjoys baking, finds it therapeutic, and has graciously whipped-up the office staff these fabulous (and delicious) Halloween cupcakes. Her secret, a little icing sugar in the batter!

Did you know Halloween dates back over 2,000 years to the Celtic festival of Samhain, where people lit bonfires and wore costumes to ward off ghosts? Over time, it evolved through history—picking up pumpkins, costumes, and cheeky trick-or-treating along the way!
While it’s not traditionally Aussie, we’ve embraced the fun side of it: dressing up, sharing treats, and enjoying a good laugh with the grandkids (or even just the neighbours!). Whether you’re ignoring the date, handing out lollies, donning a witch’s hat, or simply enjoying the spooky spirit from your veranda—here’s to a bit of harmless Halloween frivolity!

This week we introduce our fabulous Care Partner (formerly known as a Care Manager) - Ripley.

Role title: Care Partner

"I work with my clients to ensure they are getting the most out of their life with their package, making sure we are holistically improving all aspects as best we can and ensuring age isn't a barrier to enjoying life."

How long have you been working for Dovida?
I have been working for Dovida since January this year, soon approaching my one year with the company.

"I enjoy being able to listen and connect with my clients, to learn what is important to them and work in collaboration with clients and their family to get the best outcomes. My clients' wins are my wins, big or small, we celebrate them all!"

How long in the Aged Care and Disability sector?
Prior to working with Dovida, I worked as a Care Manager within the NDIS sector. I have worked in health fields including Dentistry and Holistic Health Practices prior to this, and I am currently completing my Bachelor of Nursing.

Hobbies or extra-curricular activities you enjoy?
I am enjoying training and spending time with my dogs. I also enjoy all things cooking and baking, including special cakes for my dogs.

Something interesting about yourself:
I love to learn and spend my time furthering my knowledge in a range of areas. I have completed multiple certificates in Beauty, a Diploma of Business, Graduate Certificate of Business, in my final year of a Bachelor of nursing and a third of the way through my Master of Business, focusing on business in health and aged care industries. I believe there is never enough you can learn about the world, but I would love to experience as much as I can.

Favourite food:
Lasagna and Mac and Cheese are my two favourite comfort foods!

Favourite movie:
My favourite movie is tied between Home and The Intern.

Favourite holiday destination:
This is tied between Hoi An, Vietnam and Nambucca Heads, NSW.

What you are most looking forward to in regard Support at Home:
I'm looking forward to the way the system is changing its priority to support reablement and wellness. I believe there is more to health care than treating an illness or disease. Health care is about the person as a whole and how we can bring light into people's days. The new system will allow people to access the support they need in a way that not only benefits them day to day but supports their long-term goals to live their life, their way.

The weather forecast this week is predicting heavy rain, possible thunderstorms, and strong winds across our region, especially from Tuesday through the weekend. Please take a few moments to prepare and stay safe during this time. Your wellbeing is our top priority 💙

Here are 5 simple steps to help you stay safe and prepared:

1. Secure Outdoor Items
Bring inside or tie down any loose items like garden furniture, bins, or mobility aids that could be moved by strong winds.

2. Charge Your Devices
Make sure your mobile phone and medical devices are fully charged in case of power outages.

3. Stock Up on Essentials
Have enough food, water, medications, and batteries to last at least 3 days. Include items like torches, radios, and blankets.

4. Stay Informed
Tune in to local weather updates via the Bureau of Meteorology or your local council’s disaster dashboard. Ensure you are registered to receive the Moreton Bay weather alerts.

5. Avoid Floodwaters
Never walk, drive or ride through floodwaters. If the road is flooded, turn around and find another way. Stay away from fallen powerlines and storm drains.

Happy National Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day is a celebration day to honor grandparents and show appreciation for the role they play in families and communities. It recognizes the bond between grandparents and grandchildren, their contributions, and the wisdom they share. The holiday is observed on different dates around the world and today is Queensland's National Grandparent Day.

If you have been to a Grandparents Day this year, or enjoyed family events recently, we'd love to share your photos and stories with our keyplayers, clients and their families via social media.

Here are some random grandparent facts:
- Male bees are only grandfathers or great-grandfathers due to a process called "haplodiploidy".
- Elephant grandmothers act as leaders, guiding their herds to food and water and helping raise young calves.
- Langur monkey grandmothers are protectors, actively defending their families from predators.
- In some whale pods, grandmother whales act as "babysitters" while other adults hunt,
- In Germany, grandparents are called Oma and Opa, while in Greece, they are Yiayia and Papou.
- Italians often use the terms Nonna and Nonno.
