Shout out to the wonderful Midwives and Student Midwives in our little Coast Life team.

The work you do and are learning to do everyday is so much more than “catching babies”.

Being a Midwife is not just what you do, it’s who you are. Holding space, offering unconditional love, compassion and strength when times get though. Advocating for women when they are at their most vulnerable and embracing their power to bring new life into this world.

Thank you for all that you do and will continue to do 💜

Preparing Older Siblings for a New Baby 😊

Welcoming a new baby is exciting, but it’s a big transition for older siblings.

Here are some ways we think may help to help make the journey a little smoother:

Before Baby Arrives:
Talk about it – Share what’s coming in kid-friendly ways. Books and stories work wonders. Keep it honest and simple.
Get them involved – Let them help pick baby clothes, decorate the nursery, or pack the hospital bag.
One-on-one time – Make sure they still feel special with dedicated time before and after baby’s arrival.
Avoid big changes – Try not to start daycare, move, or potty train right around baby’s debut.

After Baby Arrives:
Stick to routines – Familiar schedules give a sense of stability.
Include them in care – Give them age appropriate baby tasks with supervision.
Listen and validate – All feelings are welcome ~ excitement, jealousy, or even confusion.
Praise the positives – Notice and appreciate their efforts and kindness.
Encourage sibling love – Support bonding moments, always with a watchful eye.
Be patient – This is a big change. Adjustment takes time, and that’s totally okay.

We have some great books in Clinic for kids which helps them understand in a way that suits them around Mummy having a baby as well! Your Midwife is always here in the Antental and Postpartum stages to offer support around these changes 🩵

Happy International Women’s Day from the Coast Life

This years theme is to for meaning to take swift and decisive steps to address systemic barriers and biases faced by women. We can all call out stereotypes, challenge discrimination, question bias, celebrate women’s success, and so much more. Sharing our knowledge, support, and encouragement with others is key to change.

Remember to give yourself some love today because you deserve it more than anyone. We hope your life is full of happiness and joy.

Happy International Women’s Day from our Coast Life Midwifery Community 💗

We appreciate and recognise the powerful Women we get to support and be with everyday in this space. Due to the Tropical Cyclone here in SEQ, a special message from our Director Anne ~ As we emerge from cyclone watch here on the Sunshine Coast and are thankful we missed the worst.
We can now spend some time with our families, thinking of those friends, families and colleagues on the Gold Coast and Nth NSW and if we can help in any way.

Wishing you all a safe International Woman’s Day 🥰

When should I introduce solids? 🍌🥑

Wondering if your baby is ready for solids? Here are some key signs to look for:

✔️ Able to sit steady with support and have good head control
✔️ Showing an interest in food
✔️ Opens mouth for a spoon and has lost the tongue-thrust reflex

📅 When’s the best time? Around 6 months, but never before 4 months. Every baby is different, so readiness matters more than age!

If you're unsure about choking risks, allergens or what foods to introduce first, book an appointment for personalised guidance. 💛

🌟 Hello, little one! 🌟

Look at this sweet baby at 22 weeks, already showing off their adorable little face! 💕 It’s truly incredible how much detail we can see with 3D, 4D, and 5D ultrasound technology—from tiny fingers to precious facial expressions. 😍

At this stage of pregnancy, babies are busy practicing movements, making facial expressions, and even responding to sounds from the outside world. Imagine what this little one is dreaming about! ✨

Seeing your baby in such amazing detail is a magical and emotional experience, and we feel so honored to share these special moments with expecting families. 🫶

Coast Life Home Help Angels

Coast Life Midwifery believe that supporting women and families beyond birth is an essential part of their service. There is a real need for new parents to have some postnatal support to provide respite from “other” tasks that still need to be done after you have had a baby.

There is great benefit in providing this model of care and the team at Coast life have launched their latest venture; the CLM Home Help Angels.

Not just for new mums, it also provides support for partners, siblings and helps families when other support isn’t available. If you don’t have family close by or if your partner has to return to work, your partner is FIFO, or you just need an extra pair of hands, then the Home Help team is on hand to support you every step of the way.

New Mothers need to feel supported domestically so that they can tend to their own needs and the needs of their newborn. A mothers own self care is essential in the early weeks and beyond. Having a home help angel relieves new parents of the everyday tasks that life gives us. By eliminating this pressure, it enables mums, dads and siblings to have more time to connect with each other, more time to rest and recover and more time to feel supported in their journey together.
