How precious is family. And how grateful I am for the 3 incredible ladies in my life.

As we move into a new season we're all craving intentional time together.

As I sat with my youngest at bedtime the other day I said "I want to always be close to you."

Her reply caught me off guard and pierced my heart as she whispered "It doesn't feel like it at the moment daddy"

The season we're walking through has removed so much of our security and identity, filling us with uncertaintly and consuming our head & heart space. The pain of her words rocks me still and my resolve only deepens to create new patterns, connection and joy.

We're never "there". Never getting it "perfect". And letting people down is a fact of life.

So we grow. We learn. We accept repsonsibility, apologise and move forwards with intentionality.

I love my family, more than words can describe and I'm pursuing health and balance in every area of life, to free them to step into who they were created to be.

It's time for an adventure.

Life continually throws us more, and without carefully structuring self care we can quickly see ourselves derailed, floundering, overwhelmed.

Sound familiar?

In the current season I've had to be extra vigilant in self-care practices. For me, that starts with being kind and gracious to myself when I’m not getting things perfect.

I cut out noise by being selective with the people I have around me, take extra quiet time to calm, and journal lots to reduce the overwhelm in my mind.

Simple is best, whether that’s pre-prepping meals, going to bed earlier, or taking an extra couple of minutes in the shower to breathe deeply.

Simple and effective. Something that all my recommendations try to centre around.

Oil Pulling continues to surprise me with the incredible benefits I see for clients. And the scientific evidence to back it up continues to grow.

Holding a small amount of coconut oil in your mouth then swishing & sucking it around for 2-20mins can provide multiple benefits. Reduced microbial load, decreased inflammation, cleaner teeth and less sensitivity are common results I see after a couple of weeks.

It’s strange for sure, but give it try for a week and see how your mouth feels.

Heading back to school can bring many so emotions, happy & sad, for both kids and parents! Taking time to have discussions about school well before that first day, not shying away from difficult emotions and not placing expectations on having the most awesome day every.

I love resources and thoughts on this and many other parenting moments.

Most of all get prepared, make the mornings as easy as possible for everyone. Get uniforms out, pre-pack lunches, find all the bits, even make breakfast, the night before. And remember, be kind during these first few weeks as you settle into a routine.

Titles can come define us, keep us boxed. For a long time now I’ve felt the title ā€œDentistā€ doesn’t seem to fit me. I’ve tried on some different titles for size but until recently couldn’t find a match. And then a close friend suggested something better ā€œCoach and Facilitatorā€.

Dentistry, for me, has simply become an avenue to facilitate conversations. I find myself providing less hands on treatment, and spending more time coaching individuals through health, wellness and life.

I am establishing myself as a coach and it’s where I’ve found myself.

I’m excited as we move towards a new season to start more conversations. For the a-ha moments of insight, for the the joy of overcoming, for simply holding space to allow sharing of trauma or pain.

What title’s are you defining yourself by? Are they a true reflection of who you are and want to be?

Plastic waste sucks, so we’re always looking for ways to reduce, reuse and recycle.

There is some fantastic alternatives to plastic toothbrushes available now such as bamboo, or my personal favourite, cornstarch based brushes.

Remember your toothbrush ideally needs replacing every 3 or so months. To make it last as long as possible keep it cleaner with some time in sunshine, and brush gently to prevent the bristles flaring.

And if you can't get away from plastic, or use an electric toothbrush, look for the TerraCycle Recycling programs

There’s no perfect diet. Take a moment to digest that thought.

That said, from a background of trying many foods I have come to appreciate that we can learn to listen to our bodies cravings and understand that it will crave what we need nutritionally at different moments.

From personal experience and spending time with many patients over the years who have tried 'all the things' I genuinely believe that in our quest for health we are best to try and stay away from extremes. In beliefs, in behaviours and in diets. So many restrictive diets can be useful for a season but aren’t necessarily sustainable for a lifetime.
