Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) affects up to 90% of women at some point during their reproductive years — yet it’s still often dismissed as “normal” or something women just have to push through.

PMS is not caused by one single issue. It’s a complex interaction between:
🧠 the brain
🧬 the hypothalamic–pituitary–ovarian (HPO) axis
🔥 inflammatory pathways
🍬 blood sugar regulation
⚡ stress physiology

During the luteal phase, fluctuations in oestrogen and progesterone influence neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine and GABA, alter insulin signalling, and increase sensitivity to stress hormones. These shifts help explain why PMS can affect mood, energy, pain, cravings, sleep and emotional resilience — all at once.

This is also why generic advice like “eat better” or “take one supplement” often falls short.

Some of you may already know that I finished up my contract with Metagenics late last year and I’ve basically taken the time as the equivalent of “long service leave”. It was an amazing opportunity to really think about what I want to do and think about planning retirement.

Since we moved to the Central Coast I have juggled lots of driving and late nights for a paid job as well as fitting in my Naturopath consultations online. Now I’ve had the opportunity and quality time to think about my future I’ve realised that committing to going back to work in my business full time and it being in my home would just burn me out again. Because basically, I never give less than 110% and I realised this was affecting my health, happiness and quality time with the people I love and doing the things that I love.

So, in order to bring some balance to my life I’ve taken on a few days a week in Sydney back in retail at Go Vita Marrickville in the Metro where they are looking at setting up a clinic room in the next few months.

As of last Friday I had all the back office, insurance and legalities to practice confirmed. The website and email hosting should be back up and running this week. My Instagram, FB business pages and Burnout Bunker Group will start to become more active too.

For those of you who have reached out to make appointments for consultations and have filled in patient forms for me please reach out with your availability for Mondays or Saturdays so we can get an appointment booked in either online or face to face.

Looking forward to catching up with you all again. For the next few weeks I will be in Marrickville Thursday and Friday if you’d like to stop into the store.

I loved burnout so much that I actually did it twice. I know right, not much fun!

I not only burnt the candle at both ends, but I also struck a match and held it in the middle of the candle too. Those who know me, know that I like to do things properly!

Hi, I am Amanda and I am the founder and face of Amanda Richardson Naturopath.

My wellness story has developed over time but stemmed from a long-lasting digestive and skin condition that was relentless, exhausting and embarrassing. My quality of life was extremely compromised as I hid away from the world. Test after test and appointment after appointment, left me deflated until a friend suggested I see a Naturopath. This was a life-changing decision and the beginning of all that was to follow.

Using a holistic approach, my Naturopath sought out the root problem of my conditions and began to eliminate and introduce food that would reduce my inflammation. Reducing the inflammation had a profound effect on my wellness and within a short time, my system was performing better than it ever had and I finally had a new lease on life.

After so much suffering, I felt compelled to try to help others who were also struggling with the fallout of having inflammation within their bodies. I had experienced how much natural medicine had improved my life and I really wanted to be able to help others regain their quality of life too.

With over two decades of study and practising Natural Medicine, I have been able to streamline the investigative stage and help my clients regain their sense of self, joy and overall wellness.

Crisis precipitates evolution and I hope that my journey, education and practical experience can lessen your health crisis and have you living your best life again.

Love Amanda xx
