Plantar heel pain, often and probably incorrectly labelled "plantar fasciitis, is the single most common condition I see in my 30 odd year career treating athletes. It hurts, I know because I have had it.. and I think anybody who treats this condition should be required to suffer through it to know what it feels like! Strangely however, I like treating plantar fasciitis, because I think the protocols we have in place at BBC are very effective, whether the problem be short or long term.
Plantar heel pain, because it can be so multifactorial, is a lot more complex than most people give it credit for..
The key is, as always, in making sure the issues has been properly investigated on the basis of a very thorough history taking. On this basis, we should be able to make the diagnosis, the very first step on the path to recovery.
At BBC, we use techniques that are specific to our findings.. no "cookie cutter approach" here. We identify the cause of tissue stress, which can be anything from age, to gaining a few pounds, to acute injury. Once we know what is stressing the plantar fascia, we can go about removing the load. Common therapies include taping, stretching, shoe advice, training advice and gait modification. If you have heel pain and it is not improving, feel free to give us a call on 83639140 to discuss how we can get you back on track!
