Spotlight on Lily Norington: A Rising Star in STEM
Meet Lily Norington, a Year 11 student from Smiths Hill High School, who is already making an impact in the world of .
Lily's journey with AusDiagnostics began at the end of Year 10, when she proactively reached out, eager to dive into the field of Biomedical Engineering and Biomechanics. Over the course of two work placements in our research and development engineering facility, she gained invaluable hands-on experience with elements from CAD design to troubleshooting prototypes, and even explored cutting-edge technology such as 3D printing and machining.
Beyond her work at , Lily is an active senior member of her local FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team, Project Bucephalus, where she competes against other top teams, such as the Granville Boys Granbots. Through her leadership role, Lily continues to inspire her peers, particularly other young women, to pursue careers in STEM.
Lily’s success is also a testament to the importance of . Under the guidance of Luke Ramos, AusDiagnostics Engineering Research and Development Team Lead, she has been challenged to take ownership of her projects, reflect on her learning, and continuously develop her skills. During her second placement alongside Luke, Lily assumed greater responsibility to push her technical skills to the next level. She designed and 3D-printed a prototype, while also exploring advanced techniques such as high-tolerance machining with a CNC router. Beyond the workplace, her collaboration with Luke has also boosted her confidence in CAD design, allowing her to seamlessly apply these new skills and concepts to her school projects.
Lily exemplifies the talent, drive, and that will shape the future of engineering, technology, and innovation.
