FUBA AGM – CELEBRATING ANOTHER GREAT YEAR, TEN YEARS ON!
Despite it being a busy time of the year, it was wonderful to see some of our committed and positive members join us at King Somm to elect our new office bearers for the year ahead. It was also a pleasure to recognise the incredible volunteers who make so much of our work possible—from delivering the Bayswater Twilight Market; running the 6053 Food Pantry for those in need, to championing our town centre and supporting housing for people of all ages during a growing housing crisis.
Ten years ago, we began by highlighting the need for more housing in and around our town centre to help revitalise the area and bring more people into the heart of our community. From the outset, our speaker series featured experts who warned of an impending housing crisis that would ultimately affect future generations. And sadly here we are right in the middle of one.
Over the years, we’ve received both strong support and strong opposition. Supporters stood with us to make a real difference. Critics, however, wrongly assumed that advocating for thoughtful development meant we had some hidden agenda. We have even been accused of being developers - Not so. We are simply local people who care deeply about creating a better place for young people and those who will come after us. We want our town centre to thrive and to ensure sustainable, much-needed housing—especially now that we have Perth’s second-busiest train station right on our doorstep.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue improving the Bayswater Twilight Markets, supporting community members who are doing it tough, and strengthening our advocacy for a vibrant, revitalised town centre with housing at its heart—so the next generation can enjoy even greater opportunities than we have today.
To everyone who has volunteered, supported others, or contributed in any way—thank you. Here’s to the next chapter. Onwards and upwards!
