It’s Speech Pathology Week and this year the theme is Communicate Your Way. I love when clients are able to connect with others and share their ideas and thoughts in all the different ways (a few mentioned below). If you are having difficulty in understanding your clients, friends and loved ones, reach out to a Speech Pathologist and see if they can support you to do this better! Sending all my best wishes to all the Speech Pathologist out there. This work we do is so important!

It’s speech pathology week! This years theme ‘communication is everyone’s right’ strikes a chord with me. Unfortunately if you have a communication impairment it does become harder to access the world around you or connect with you family and friends.
Sending a big shout out to my fellow SPs - thank you for your efforts to help your clients maintain their right to communicate.
For those who don’t know much about speech pathology and the theme, here’s a podcast to get you started. Being aware and educating yourself about communication impairment goes a long way to helping our clients.
Cheers everyone!

SPA’s Anneke Flinn explores this year’s Speech Pathology Week theme, “Communication is everyone’s right” with Professor Sharynne McLeod, from Charles Sturt University.

I hope everyone stays safe and healthy during the lockdown here in SA. Reach out to your supports if you need to during this time. We got this 👊

To stop the spread of COVID-19 in South Australia, new restrictions will come into effect from 6pm Tuesday 20 July 2021.

There will be 5 essential reasons to leave your home:
▪ Undertake essential work.
▪ Shop for essential goods and services (including takeaway).
▪ Medical reasons (including COVID-19 vaccination and testing).
▪ Care and caregiving.
▪ Exercise (with people in same household).

More information will be made available soon at www.covid-19.sa.gov.au

A list of essential workers is available at www.covid-19.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0019/420391/Public-Activities-Level-5-Essential-Workers-List.pdf

If you are in quarantine because you have visited a COVID-19 exposure location or have been directed by SA Health to quarantine, you must stay at home (except in an emergency or to seek COVID-19 testing).

Thank you for playing your part South Australia – together we can stop the spread of COVID-19 in SA.

If you have any COVID-19 symptoms, even if they are mild - get tested. You still need to get tested even if you have been vaccinated. Please be patient with testing site staff as testing sites are experiencing longer than usual wait times. We are increasing staff and extending opening hours.

Did you know that as well as helping my clients with their communication, cognition or swallowing I am also passionate about supervision and mentoring? I am about to commence some supervision for a recent graduate stepping into an adult neurological role and I am so excited! Watching those I supervise develop their knowledge and skills and importantly their confidence is a wonderful privilege to witness. If you or someone you know may be interested in this service then please feel free to let them know that I would love to help them 😀

Looking forward to presenting at some of the F4F meetings this month!
