👫World Kindness Day 💛🧡

Today is a global celebration of compassion, empathy, and the simple power of being kind.
Kindness can take many forms: a thoughtful message, a helping hand, a moment of patience, or simply listening. These small acts can have a big impact, in our homes, communities, schools, and workplaces.
Today is a reminder that kindness isn’t just a nice idea — it’s a force for connection, understanding, and positive change.

🗣Lung Cancer Awareness Month 🫁🤍

This is a global initiative dedicated to increasing understanding of the leading cause of cancer-related deaths.

The campaign emphasizes the importance of early detection, advances in treatment, and reducing stigma associated with the disease. Lung cancer can affect anyone, regardless of smoking history, and awareness remains a critical factor in improving outcomes.

Key messages this month include: • Recognizing symptoms such as persistent cough, chest pain, and shortness of breath • Encouraging routine health screenings and medical consultations • Supporting ongoing research and patient advocacy

Raising awareness saves lives.

Why we will not be bulk billing every appointment from Nov 1st….

At Health In Abundance we remain committed to providing thorough, personal and high quality medical care.

To remain financially viable (pay staff, rent, electricity, insurance etc) we are a mixed billing practice. We bulk bill 60% of patients (care plans, health assessments, pensioners, kids under 16 and immunisations). The rest pay a gap and cross-subsidise those who are bulk billed.

The commonest problems we see are complex chronic care and mental health, which take time. The government is removing mental health items and has reduced the medicare rebate for care plans.
If we bulk billed everyone and every appointment then we would have to move to a “6 minute medicine“ model of rapid throughput and low quality care and cut services.
It’s called ‘churn and burn’. That is not the type of medicine we practice or you deserve.

To maintain our high standards and personal care, our practice will not switch to universal bulk billing despite what the government is promising in the media.

We know that the cost of healthcare is a concern and we encourage you to contact your local Federal Member of Parliament to explain how these changes impact you. You can also ask your GP if you qualify for a care plan for complex chronic disease.

We suggest that the government should increase your Medicare rebate to reduce your out of pocket costs and stop cutting patient chronic disease and mental health rebates.

🩺This week is Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Week. 💉

Held in October each year, the week highlights the importance of preventing infections, promoting better infection prevention and control practices in health care and recognising the efforts of all healthcare workers to reduce the risks. This year's theme is 'A proactive approach to IPC: Identify the risk, protect patients and the workforce and Control the spread of infection.'

The theme aims to support the health care workforce to prevent infections from occurring and spreading using simple strategies that protect both the workers and patients. Everyone has a role to play, where simple actions can make a big difference.
