Gingersnap and our friendship as siblings is a place of joy, but underneath, sits many stories of discrimination, questions of worth and sometimes what feel like insurmountable challenges.

This is the balance of life and we are emboldened to take control of the next chapter in our story, and have a positive impact on the world around us.

Today in we are honoured to share our story and what motivates us to have a bold vision and make cakes that bring people joy.

Our emails have already blown up this morning. We'd love to hear your stories 👇💛

Last night, our partner .org.au was awarded The Age Good Food Guide Award "Food for Good". As the CEO, my sister Jess accepted the award and stood in front of the best of the best in hospitality to share the vision of creating 1,100 hospitality careers for people with disability by 2035.

Gingersnap is so proud to work with ATE on big projects like the Australian Open and our pop-up cafe which is back from 17 November. I personally love facilitating baking classes for ATE trainees and sharing my journey.

This was a huge moment for the industry to show their belief in people with disability, and I'm so excited for what's to come.

3 things about me and my deafness.

In 1989, I was the 100th patient and youngest person ever to receive a cochlear implant (babies now receive them much younger!)

It was a condition of my cochlear that I didnt learn auslan (they thought it would interpret learning speech). I learnt as an adult

With my cochlear, I still only hear about 5 % of what you hear. Listening makes me tired and I prefer silence.

What else would you like to know about deafness?

Last night was a full circle moment.

Almost 8 years ago, I started my journey into the world of social enterprise, hoping to play a role in building careers for people that needed them most.

Working with Hannah at opened my world, and showed what was possible. With a tiny budget and her exceptional ability to build hospitality partnerships and brand, Hannah creates outsized and long term impact for young people first arriving in Australia (almost 400 lives and counting).

Last night we celebrated Scarf's graduates with their 15 year anniversary and Brett created the most sensational birthday cake for the party!

8 years ago, it felt like a pipedream to be a part of a social enterprise. Now we celebrate Scarf's incredible success AND do it alongside my brother with our own social impact business.

Congratulations Scarf. Your impact is more far reaching than you know.

Jess xx

Sometimes cake, is not just cake.

Our cake is also our story, and one that we want you to be a part of. One about all of our differences, and how this world, which is full of difference, is to be celebrated!

Our cake is beautiful, delicious, and handmade for everyone to enjoy. Just as the world should be 💚

We never got it right, so maybe we just stick to making cakes.
