If you’ve been taught to judge a workout by how many calories it burns, you’re not alone.

But for women, that’s a very small part of the picture...

Here’s what matters more.

1. Muscle is protective.
Strength training helps preserve muscle, which supports metabolism, bone density and long-term function. As we age, muscle becomes one of the biggest predictors of independence and health.

2. Your body adapts to stress.
If stress is already high, constantly chasing intensity can blunt recovery and stall progress. The body doesn’t just respond to effort. It responds to load: training, recovery and fuelling combined.

3. Capacity beats calorie burn.
Stronger muscles, more stable joints and better movement control mean your body handles daily life, training and hormonal shifts more effectively.

When you only train to burn calories, you miss what you’re building.

If this shifts how you’ve been thinking about exercise, comment BUILD and I’ll message you how I help women balance strength, recovery and nutrition in real life.

If pushing harder hasn’t delivered the results you expected, this might be why.

For many women, the missing piece usually isn’t more discipline, it’s the right kind of support.

High stress, busy schedules and changing hormones all affect how the body responds to intensity. When recovery, fuelling and nervous system load aren’t considered, more exercise often just adds to the pressure. 😳

Sustainable progress usually starts when we stop overriding the body and sIf pushing harder hasn’t delivered the results you expected, this might be why.tart supporting it.

That can look like:
• adjusting intensity
• improving fuelling and timing
• prioritising sleep and recovery
• choosing movement that works with your current season of life

This is the lens I use when I work with women 1:1.
We look at stress, energy, food and movement together, then build an approach that fits your real life — not a perfect routine you can’t maintain.

Emily and I made a reservation for a week before we arrived because we knew this was a must-visit in Byron and honestly… I get why people rave about it!

The space is beautiful but not try-hard. Relaxed but still so much vibe. Modern, easy to settle in and actually enjoy your food.

We ordered a mix and every dish delivered:
• ceviche that was fresh and zesty, with coconut and chilli adding that extra kick
• spicy Korean fried chicken bao buns: an elite combo of crunch, heat and softness
• wagyu beef rendang with jasmine rice that was rich without being heavy
• edamame with kaffir lime salt which sounds simple but was so good!

What I loved most was how balanced everything felt. Big flavour, thoughtful portions, nothing overly heavy or “ugh I need a nap” afterwards.

This is exactly the kind of place I mean when I talk about flexible eating in real life. Ordering with protein front of mind 𝘢𝘯𝘥 what sounds good, sharing, enjoying the experience and leaving satisfied — not restricted or feeling like you’ve “messed up”

If you’re heading to Byron and like modern Asian with a great vibe, this one’s a big yes!

This is a visual guide to show how different foods stack up when you’re aiming for roughly 30g of protein.

Same protein target. Different portions.

This is where a lot of women get tripped up.

Not because they’re “doing it wrong”, but because what 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘴 as enough protein looks different depending on the food.

This isn’t a suggestion to eat these foods on their own or in these exact amounts. It’s simply perspective.

Once you understand protein yield:
• meals feel more satisfying
• hunger between meals settles
• hitting protein becomes easier without tracking every gram

Most people don’t need more discipline. They need clearer reference points.

Save this for grocery shopping or meal planning, and if you want help building meals that hit protein 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴, this is exactly what I do inside my FLEX Method coaching.

Weeknight dinner out with the girls at Disuko 🍸

Wow, what a vibe! Dark, buzzy, such a welcome to Melbourne!

We went with the $55 Disuko Setto, which between the three of us meant a mix of 2 starters, 3 mains and 2 sides.

Starters were easily the highlight: wagyu tataki, hiramasa kingfish and age-maki salmon were all solid and the stand-outs.

Mains were a mixed bag. The tempura prawns held up well, but the barramundi was lacking flavour and the tori karaage wasn't memorable. The kare fries were OK... but the edamame surprised us, we loved the char and spice on them.

We also noticed the omakase setup while we were there. No one was on it that night but it looked amazing, definitely one to keep in mind for a celebration, special occasion or even a work do. Swipe across to see it.

The cocktail menu was amazing and we opted for a round of the Cherry Blossom. It's on the sweeter side, more citrus than cherry, and very easy to drink.

We would’ve loved a booth but we ended up heading over to the balcony later which was actually a really nice way to finish the night. Worth noting though, the rooftop is snack-style only, not the full menu, so better for drinks and small bites than a full dinner.

Disuko is a great addition to the Melbourne scene. Not every dish needs to be a standout for a night to be good. Great company, shared plates, midweek plans and actually switching off did exactly what it needed to do: filled the social cup!

Real life includes ice cream, laughs and being present with the people you love.

And no, this doesn’t derail progress.

This IS progress when your approach to food actually fits your life.

Flexible eating isn’t about perfection.

It’s about freedom, consistency and not needing to “make up for” moments like this.

If food still feels stressful, you don’t need more rules, you need a better system. Enjoy your weekend!

These 2016 posts are everywhere right now, so obviously I had to scroll back through my own camera roll. 🫠

And… it made me laugh a bit!

Back then I was:
• experimenting in the kitchen (pulp and seed bread still gets brought up at certain friend catch-ups)
• saving screenshots of all the different names for sugar
• becoming curious about gardening and learning how to grow our own food
• choosing active catch-ups
• taking extra close-up photos of meals 🫣
• always thinking about the next trip with a huge wall art to remind me!

At the time, I was working at Milligram’s HQ in a dog-friendly office, doing digital comms and marketing.
That feels like a lifetime ago. Or maybe just a different version of energy.

Looking back, the funny part is how unplanned it all was.

The curiosity around food, movement and real life was already there.

The seeds were being sown long before I knew where they’d lead. I don't mind this trend! 🤗

𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝘇𝘆.

I used to think repeating meals meant I’d get bored or feel restricted.

But when life is full, the problem isn’t effort, it’s decision fatigue.

On weeks where my capacity is low, repeating meals:
• reduces mental load
• frees up energy and time in the kitchen for everything else
• helps consistency happen without extra effort
• saves my bank account!

This isn’t about eating the same thing forever, it’s about letting food be easy when life isn’t.

This has been one of the key focus pillars inside the Gentle January Reset this week. It’s one of those habits that looks too simple to matter, but quietly changes everything.

If food feels noisy right now, try this: choose one meal and repeat it for a few days.

If this way of approaching food resonates, I’ll be running another gentle reset soon.

Comment 𝙂𝙀𝙉𝙏𝙇𝙀 if you’d like me to let you know when it opens.

• eating without dieting • food structure • low effort nutrition • consistency without restriction

January doesn’t need another hard reset.

For a lot of women, this time of year feels heavier not because motivation is gone, but because life is fuller now. More moving parts. Less capacity for extremes.

If food feels noisier than you’d like right now, that doesn’t mean you’ve failed or lost discipline. It usually just means structure needs to meet you where you are.

I’m a big believer that sustainable change starts quietly.
With regular meals.
Simple anchors.
Enough consistency to feel steady, without turning life into a project.

That’s exactly why I created the 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝘁, a short, 7-day supportive reset designed to help you ease back into routine, reduce decision fatigue around food and feel more in control again, without dieting or restriction.

Whether you join something this month or not, this is your reminder that you don’t need to overhaul everything to move forward.

🗓 Starts tomorrow, 12 January
