World Diabetes Day (WDD) was created in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organisation in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by diabetes.

World Diabetes Day is the world's largest diabetes awareness campaign reaching a global audience of over 1 billion people in more than 160 countries.

Diabetes mellitus, or diabetes, is a condition where there is too much glucose in the blood. The body can't make insulin, enough insulin or is not effectively using the insulin it does make.

Over time high glucose levels can damage blood vessels and nerves, resulting in long term health complications including heart, kidney, eye and foot damage.

Diabetes is a serious and chronic condition which can affect the entire body. While there is currently no cure, you can live an enjoyable life by learning about the condition and effectively managing it.

Remembrance Day falls on the 11th of November each year.

On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minutes' silence is observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation.

In Flanders Fields:
- Poem by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, 3 May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the gun below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

The Ode of Remembrance:

They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

STEAM: Science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics.

There's no way around it: children are significantly better off with strong science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics skills.

That's why STEM and STEAM education programs are so important.

The foundation of innovation lies in a dynamic, motivated and well-educated workforce equipped with STEM/STEAM skills.
