Now we build on that horizontal projection by testing each side individually.

Most sport is performed unilaterally (one limb at a time), so it’s important to measure both sides in isolation.

This helps us:
• Identify asymmetries
• Spot compensatory patterns
• Reduce potential injury risk
• Improve overall performance

We all naturally have a more dominant side, but ideally we want both sides scoring within 10% of each other in total distance.

Here we’re measuring Parry’s broad jump ability, a simple but powerful way to assess how well he can project himself horizontally across space.

Athletes who can project well have a big advantage when it comes to accelerating and covering ground in their sport.

To maximise distance and power, we want to create as much momentum as possible.
Starting tall, then swinging back into the hips and legs while driving the arms helps utilise the stretch-shortening cycle (SSC), where muscles and tendons rapidly store and release energy when stretched and shortened quickly.

⚡ Intent matters.
If this is performed too slowly, that stored energy dissipates and we lose output.

💥Multiple Camera Angles for Coaching Acceleration

Here is an example of utilising the rear-view of an acceleration in association with the side-on view to help with Shanks block starts.

Firstly in the rear view we see that lateral listing of his right leg, landing outside of his centre of mass. This can be as a result of a few consequences.

In this circumstance by reviewing his sideon view, we can see his projection angle is too low, leading to him potentially stepping out laterally due to not having the appropriate air time capabilities.

A belated celebration of our official move to our Ringwood facility!
Yianni ( ) started his previous company, growing it from humble beginnings into the thriving community we now have at Ringwood. Cat ( .performance ) was also integral to this journey before our merge with Juy ( ) and the amazing team at our Bundoora facility — which led to the formation of Pivot Sports Performance.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way — we couldn’t have done it without you.
