On Friday night’s guided walk at the Redwood Forest, we were walking the banks of the creek & our ears pricked up to hear this sound - a fledgling kookaburra laughing. Following it, we were all able to see the kookaburra’s nest/hollow & family near the top of the trunk of a large mountain ash.

Our senses guide us in so many ways & are vital for tracking & orientation. One sense leads to the next, mapping new pathways for us to follow.

Join Catherine Marty & Leesa Nash for a unique fusion of plant music & forest therapy - 5.00-8.30pm, 12th December 2025, Redwood Forest, Warburton.

🍃 Be guided to gently tune into your physical and intuitive senses, surrounded by the rhythm of the forest.
🍃 Wander slowly and mindfully, awakening your deep connection to the wild both around and within you.
🍃 Discover intimate forest landscapes and witness the turning of the local indigenous seasons — following the changing weather patterns, plant cycles, wildlife behaviour and bird language.
🍃 Rest beneath the forest canopy, listening to the electromagnetic frequencies of the trees and plants, accompanied by gentle music.
🍃 Pause with a reflective Tea Ceremony and return to the world with a restful calm.

This inaugural offering will take place in the hours leading up to sunset, where we can experience the beautiful Warburton Redwoods as they are bathed in golden shades of twilight. As the birds share their final calls of the day and the forest is filled with the cicada's song, we'll conclude our session as darkness falls.

As a special offer for our inaugural event, tickets are at the discounted price of $60 per person.

Future events will be at both, Redwood Forest (Warburton) & Gresswell Forest (Bundoora).

Head to our Humanitix page to book tickets & follow for future 2026 dates

Interesting reading! My work in Outdoor Health integrates art therapy, forest therapy, 8 Shields from the Wild School & the local indigenous seasons.

I recently submitted an NDIS report referencing the POMS Profile of Mood States which the participant completed before & after sessions. It was wonderfully useful to have something to show the ‘numbers people’ what we already know to be true!

A notable reduction in psychological distress was recorded following active engagement with nature based processes. Upon reviewing progress toward NDIS goals, the participant and I agreed that the reported scaling measures appropriately reflect their overall progress, which can be summarised as: a significant impact to very significant impact on Tension-Anxiety and Depression-Dejection; resolved symptomology for Anger-Hostility; Significant improvement to improvement for
Fatigue-Inertia and Confusion-Bewilderment; and varied effect for Vigor-Activity. These experiences overall, reflect increased self-awareness and optimism, aligning gains in self-confidence, enhancing her mental health and recovery.

We have returned from walking the Gariwerd / Grampians Peaks Trail during the late spring/early summer season of Petyan or Ganyan on the traditional lands of the Jardwadjali and Djab Wurrung people. This is a time of wildflowers, renewal, and increasing warmth. The landscape was bursting with color from wildflowers, orchids, eucalyptus blossoms, berries and seeding grasses. This country is the source of creation stories for many of the Aboriginal communities in south-western Victoria. Walking these ancient rocky mountains, touching the sky, kissed by the rain & sun, surrounded by wildflowers & bird call brings a sense of place & time, beyond clocks & calendars.

A change to be welcomed. May this grow in our hearts across the country ❤️ 💛 🖤 🖤💛❤️

Elliot Page is taking a walk on the wild side with “Second Nature: Gender and Sexuality in the Animal World” — a new documentary exploring queerness across the natural world.

Narrated and produced by Page, the film challenges the myth that nature is strictly binary, uncovering how over 1,500 species form same-s*x partnerships, create matriarchies, and even change s*x.

Featuring leading scientists including trans ecologist Dr Joan Roughgarden, “Second Nature” premieres at the New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival on 18 October.

Following the tawny frogmouth family near Coburg Pool. They return to this tree & create a nest each year.

This is a typical nest, placed on horizontal, forked tree branches. Loose sticks are piled together, and leaf litter and grass stems are placed to soften the centre. The clutch size usually is one to three eggs.

Tawny frogmouths partner for life and usually stay in the same territory for a decade or more. Both parents share incubation of the eggs during the night, whilst during the day, males incubate the eggs. One partner roosts on a nearby branch and provides food for the brooding partner. The fledging period of the tawny frogmouth is 25 to 35 days, during which they develop half their adult mass.
