More than 280,000 Australians live with permanent low vision, yet many still fall through the gaps in funded support.

Fortunately, SeeWay. can provide some much-needed support. Developed by our colleagues at Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, SeeWay assists people living with permanent vision changes who may not qualify for traditional services. The program strengthens practical independence, builds confidence and fosters social connection, helping people navigate daily life with greater ease.

We’re proud to highlight the impact SeeWay is having across the community. Learn more about their work in this piece by Holly Kelly, Communications Specialist for SeeWay:https://loom.ly/hW72O7A

As we head into the final stretch of the year, please note that our day surgeries will close over the Christmas and New Year period.

Panch is paying it forward.

With support from Rotary Australia’s ‘Donations in Kind’ program, Panch Day Surgery Centre has donated two anaesthetic machines that will soon be put to use in Samoa.

We’re fortunate to care for our patients with leading-edge surgical techniques and equipment. At the same time, there remains a significant need for reliable medical equipment in developing countries to support safer procedures and better patient outcomes.

Aligned with our belief that healthcare should be accessible to all, we’re proud to help expand the surgical capacity in a country of need and contribute to improved health outcomes for the communities receiving this equipment.

A huge thank you to Rotary Donations in Kind West Footscray for making this possible.

Breaking ground in patient care, we’ve launched Australia’s first multi-site study on cataract surgery discharge readiness!

We’re excited to share that Vision Hospital Group, led by our National Director of Nursing, Kylie Bennett, is undertaking a nationwide research project to better understand the extent to which cataract surgery patients feel prepared to manage their recovery at home. Supported by a Future Vision Foundation grant, this first-of-its-kind study will be conducted across several of our facilities.

Discharge is more than just the last step involved in surgery – it’s the foundation for a smooth and confident recovery. Our aim is to develop a ‘gold-standard’ discharge process that’s safe, anxiety-free, and supports best-practice patient care.

We never stop paying attention to microbes. 🦠

At Vision Hospital Group, infection control is a paramount concern – it underpins the quality, safety and comfort of every patient experience. That’s why we created In Safe Hands, our comprehensive program designed to protect both patients and healthcare professionals at every step of their care journey.

From robust infection-prevention protocols to continuous staff training, In Safe Hands ensures our hospitals are safe, reassuring environments that foster positive outcomes.

Celebrating 10 years of dedication! 🎉

We’re shining a spotlight on Lidia, who’s been an integral part of the Footscray Day Surgery team for an incredible 10 years!

Celebrating with Lidia are surgeon Dr Andrew Atkins, anaesthetist Dr Ali Gur, Director of Nursing Mini and members of the Footscray Day Surgery team.

Over the past decade, Lidia has been a friendly face in admissions, a supportive mentor to new staff, and a valued leader – serving as Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) from 2021 to 2024. Her kindness, professionalism and genuine care have made a lasting impression on both colleagues and patients alike.

Thank you, Lidia, for your ongoing commitment and the warmth you bring to our team every day. Here’s to you and your amazing decade at FDS! 👏

We're proud to step into this year’s AONA National Conference – held at the Melbourne Convention Centre on 15 November – as a Bronze Sponsor.

We’re excited to support the Australian Ophthalmic Nurses Association - AONA and look forward to connecting with like-minded professionals this weekend.

It’s a fitting moment to celebrate, with this week marking Perioperative Nurses Week – the perfect time to recognise the exceptional care, skill and compassion they bring to every patient and procedure.

Our nurses play a vital role in each patient’s journey – from pre-admission and surgery through to recovery and discharge – ensuring every step runs seamlessly. They also support our surgeons across a range of disciplines, anticipating needs with calm precision and care.

To our incredible nursing team: thank you for the expertise, dedication and heart you bring to our hospitals every day. Your impact is truly extraordinary.
