Hi!
We're a new street medic collective from Naarm (Melbourne). We've been busy building our foundations and running long-distance trainings under lockdown and we're ready to hit the streets to support activists organising against injustice!
We inherit and benefit from the work of a long line of street medics before us and aim to uphold the medic motif to 'do no harm'. We aim to be an organised, well-trained group that has a commitment to 'best practice' and to anti-oppressive politics.
Our medics can provide First Aid and pepper spray decontamination at rallies, but ideally all we do is hand out sunscreen, masks, water bottles and be a calming presence on the streets. We also endeavor to show up for mutual aid efforts, community solidarity and support outside of the rally context.
We recognise that we live and operate on stolen Indigenous land, that sovereignty was never ceded and that colonisation is ongoing. We stand in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and wish to center Indigenous solidarity in our organising efforts.
Please do contact us if your rally/action needs medics. All we ask is that you give us as much notice to prepare as you can and, if possible, to invite us to send a delegate to one of your organising meetings to figure out a plan with you. If you'd like medics at your rally, or you'd be interested in becoming a street medic, feel free to send us a message.
We've attended our first few actions as a group and we're looking forward to organising with you in the future!
Solidarity,
Naarm Frontline Medics
