Manganese is a trace mineral that is absolutely essential for connective tissue, joint stability, and cartilage strength.

It plays a critical role in the formation of collagen, ligaments, and tendons.
The very structures that hold joints together.

Unlike iron or zinc, manganese isn’t found in high amounts in muscle meat. This means dogs fed homemade or raw diets can easily fall short if manganese-rich foods aren’t intentionally included.

Over time, inadequate manganese intake may contribute to weaker connective tissue, reduced joint resilience, and a greater risk of injury.

The good news is this is easily corrected by adding the right whole foods.

Having dachshunds, this is something I’m especially conscious of, as their long backs place extra demand on spinal and connective tissue strength.

Slide across to see simple, natural foods rich in manganese that you can add to support stronger, more resilient joints from the inside out.

Lactoferrin is one of the reasons
Gut Intense exists.
Not a trend ingredient, a deliberate one.

Designed to support gut lining repair and calm inflammation in dogs with ongoing gut issues.
Because gut permeability is more complex than simply adding probiotics.

This is formulation done with purpose.

Folate and folic acid are not interchangeable, even though pet food labels treat them that way.

Folate is vitamin B9 in its natural, food-based form, found in organ meats like liver.
Folic acid is a synthetic substitute added to ultra-processed foods because it’s cheap and stable.

Here’s the problem 👇
Dogs don’t use them the same way.

Folic acid must be converted before it can be used and when that process breaks down, it can block natural folate, disrupt methylation, and leave dogs functionally deficient even when the diet looks “balanced” on paper.

👉 This matters most during pregnancy.
In the very early stages, folate is vital for rapidly dividing cells and normal development. Adequate, bioavailable folate helps prevent developmental abnormalities in puppies, particularly those involving the brain, spine, and early organ formation.

This is why relying on synthetic folic acid during pregnancy is a risk I’m not comfortable with.

Real food folate comes pre-packaged with the cofactors dogs need to actually use it.

This is why form matters.
This is why source matters.
And this is why biology always responds better to the real thing.

🦴 So before I start, I want to make it clear, I actually love marrow bones…but I don’t think they are suitable as chewing bones for most dog’s and here’s why...

The main reason comes down to size and hardness.
Marrow bones are very hard, weight-bearing bones and are one of the most common bones linked to cracked or fractured teeth.

They’re also extremely rich in fat.

That’s not a bad thing but when a dog is gnawing and consuming large amounts in one sitting, it can be a lot for the digestive system, especially for dogs with sensitive guts.

Where marrow bones really shine 👇
They are the perfect bone broth bone.
Full of fat and collagen and a much safer way to extract nutrients without the dental risk.

They’re also often the bone people think they should feed.
They’re cheap, easy to find at the butcher and widely recommended.

But they can splinter, and some dogs have been known to choke or get them stuck around their mouth due to their size and shape.

Now, that doesn’t mean every dog shouldn’t have them. If your dog chews marrow bones regularly and does well on them, great. I sometimes give my own dogs a lamb marrow bone to clean their teeth, however I ensure they only have it for a short period of time (max 40 mins) and then I dispose of it.

For chewing, I prefer raw meaty bones (especially if you are not a confident bone feeder)

For larger dogs:
• Beef or lamb necks
• Roo tails
• Chicken carcasses

For smaller dogs:
• Duck wings and heads
• Chicken carcasses
• Roo tail pieces
• Chicken feet

Bones are fantastic for dogs for so many reasons, dental health being one of the top.
Just make sure you’re making smart choices when it comes to bones and always supervise your dog when feeding.

Kibble is not food.
It is ultra processed garbage.

Any company that tries to sell it as anything else needs to take accountability for their lies.

Dogs deserve better.
