The role
We are seeking Mental Health Nurses to join our primary care team across various correctional sites. You will be responsible for providing mental health assessments, risk assessments, case management and ongoing care community plans. You will have responsibility for your decisions working autonomously in this nurse-led role, with the support of a passionate multidisciplinary team. Working with this vulnerable patient cohort offers our staff the chance to provide continuity of care within a recovery based model.

We have fulltime, part-time and casual vacancies at the following locations (all working a 7 day rotating roster):

• Parkville Youth Justice Centre
• Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre
• Metropolitan Remand Centre (MRC), based in Ravenhall
• Ravenhall Correctional Centre (RCC), based in Ravenhall
• Dame Phyliss Frost Centre (DPFC), women’s facility based in Deer Park
• Barwon, based in Lara (0.5 FTE only)

Essential experience and attributes include the following selection criteria:

• Registered General Nurse qualification with a post graduate Mental Health qualification, specialise degree or equivalent (we will consider applications with extensive experience and willingness to complete a post grad qualification)
• Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
• Recent nursing experience in a mental healthcare setting
• Superior communication, interpersonal and organisational skills

The Role
We are seeking permanent full-time or part-time experienced Mental Health Nurses to join our primary care team at the Metropolitan Remand Centre, based in Ravenhall, where we run the primary mental health services for prisoners. You will have responsibility for your decisions working autonomously in this nurse-led role, with the support of a passionate multidisciplinary team. Working with this vulnerable patient cohort offers our staff the chance to provide continuity of care within a recovery-based model.

There are full-time and part-time opportunities available. The shifts are 8 hours, between 7am and 9pm, on a rotating roster Monday to Sunday. We also have an opportunity for 3 shifts a fortnight doing night duty, from 9.30pm to 7.30am (Monday and Tuesdays).

Roles & Responsibilities:
- Develop and review patients mental health care plans, in consultation with the patient
- Closely monitor patients mental state and provide thorough mental health assessments and risk assessments in an outpatient setting
- Provide primary mental health discharge planning
- Provide primary health care support to patients, throughout their stay at the correctional facility
- Liaise with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide coordinated patient management

Essential experience and attributes include the following selection criteria:
- Registered General Nurse qualification with a post graduate Mental Health qualification or equivalent (we will consider applications with extensive experience and willingness to complete a post grad qualification)
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
- Recent experience as a Mental Health Nurse
- Superior communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
- Intermediate to advanced PC skills

The Role
An exciting opportunity is now available for an experienced Aboriginal Health Worker to join our team. You will play a valuable role to facilitate appropriate care and delivery of a culturally safe health service for Aboriginal young people to achieve better health outcomes. You will assist Aboriginal patients to take a role in controlling and managing their health and lifestyle.

This is a permanent part time position (0.8 FTE) working across our Parkville and Malmsbury Youth Justice Centres (working 2 days a week at alternating sites). However, we are also willing to consider candidates who are only wishing to work at one site only (working 0.4 FTE, 2 days a week at either the Parkville or Malmsbury facility), alternative working hours are negotiable. Please confirm in your cover letter your preference to work across one site or both.

Ideally the successful applicant for this role will be able to demonstrate the following criteria:
- Has undertaken or is willing to undertake Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Care (Practice)
- Experience in an Aboriginal Health Worker or similar role
- Active in the Aboriginal community
- Excellent interpersonal and effective communication skills
- Hold a current Victorian Driver’s License
