What a fantastic initiative

We are proud to share the launch of Toys Without Barriers, a new six-month pilot program in Melbourne’s south east that helps make play more accessible for children of all abilities.

Families can now borrow switch adapted toys, sensory resources and inclusive play equipment from three Melbourne toy libraries:

📍 Stonnington Toy Library (Malvern branch)
📍 Kingston Toy Library (Mordialloc branch)
📍 Springvale Toy Library (Springvale Service for Children)

The program also offers a home delivery service for families who cannot visit in person, and there is no volunteer requirement. This makes it easier for families of children with disability or developmental delay to try adaptive toys at home and support their child’s play, learning and confidence.

We believe every child deserves to play, learn and belong. If you know a family who might benefit, or if you want to help raise awareness about inclusive play, please share this post.

It’s speech pathology week and time to celebrate all forms of communication. This little champion may not be able to see the symbols on his communication device, but that doesn’t stop him from expressing his thoughts loud and clear!

This is the impact of the NDIS price changes

"I want to make the most of my 'capable' time."

Kerry Benson lives with Friedrich’s ataxia, a progressive neurological condition that affects her speech, mobility and swallowing.

With support from the NDIS, Kerry has been able to access home visits from her speech pathologist. This support helps her stay connected to her job, her family and her community.

But proposed NDIS funding cuts now put that vital support at risk.

Kerry’s story, shared through The Senior, is a powerful reminder of how speech pathology changes lives and why it must remain accessible for all Australians who need it.

Thank you Kerry, and thank you to your speech pathologist, Dominique, for sharing this story.

Speech Pathology Australia, alongside other allied health peak bodies, is calling for an urgent review of the NDIS pricing changes coming into effect on 1 July.
