Your initial consultation with Balance Osteopathy, we will ask about the history of the problem you have been experiencing and your more general health history. This is to give us an overall picture of what the issue is in the context of your individual health and function. We want to know about your current daily activities, and what you would like to get back to as we help alleviate this issue. We will take you through a general movement screen and focus on functional tasks, activities or sports you engage in, followed by specific table based hands-on assessment, motion testing and palpation. Our services are designed to help you get back to your old self as quickly as possible.

Spending long hours at a desk can lead to stiffness, tension and discomfort in the neck, shoulders and lower back. Simple, regular stretches throughout the day can make a meaningful difference.

At Balance Osteopathy, we encourage incorporating easy desk-based movements to counteract the effects of prolonged sitting. Gentle seated spinal rotations can help ease lower back tension, while posterior shoulder stretches, shoulder shrugs, and neck rotations support improved mobility and reduce built-up tightness. Taking short movement breaks during the workday can help maintain comfort, support better posture and enhance overall well-being when working at a screen.

Small, consistent changes can lead to lasting improvements. Book an assessment with our team for personalised movement advice.

Returning to running after a break can be motivating, but a gradual and considered approach is essential to reduce the risk of injury and support long-term consistency.

Begin by increasing your running distance or time slowly, aiming for no more than a 5–10% progression each week. This allows your muscles, joints and connective tissues time to adapt safely.

It’s also important to assess your running shoes, as worn or unsupportive footwear can place unnecessary strain on your feet, knees and lower limbs. Start with flatter routes before reintroducing hills, and prioritise a proper warm-up to prepare your body for the demands of running.

If you’ve experienced previous injuries or ongoing niggles, an assessment can help identify movement patterns that may increase your risk.

Sciatica can cause pain, tingling or discomfort that radiates from the lower back down through the hip, leg or foot, often making everyday movements difficult and frustrating.

At Balance Osteopathy, we take a thorough and considered approach to sciatica care. Osteopathic treatment focuses on improving soft tissue flexibility, joint function and nerve mobility, while identifying movement patterns or restrictions that may be contributing to ongoing symptoms. By addressing the underlying causes rather than just the pain itself, we aim to reduce irritation, restore movement and support long-term relief. Every treatment plan is tailored to your body, lifestyle and goals to help you move more comfortably and confidently.

Hydration plays an important yet often overlooked role in joint health and overall movement. Your joints rely on synovial fluid, a natural lubricant that helps reduce friction and supports smooth, pain-free motion.

When you’re dehydrated, joints can feel stiff, tight or achy, particularly after physical activity or long periods of sitting. At Balance Osteopathy, we encourage a holistic approach to movement health. Staying well hydrated supports healthy tissues, improves joint function and complements good movement habits and treatment. Combined with regular movement and appropriate care, hydration can make a meaningful difference to comfort, recovery and performance.

Support your joints from the inside out. Book an appointment with our team today.

Mobility and flexibility are often confused, but they play very different roles in how your body moves.

Flexibility refers to the ability of muscles to stretch, while mobility is about controlled movement through a joint’s full range. It’s possible to be flexible yet still lack mobility, meaning a joint may stretch but not move efficiently or safely. At Balance Osteopathy, osteopathy aims to improve both. We assess joint motion, soft tissue function and overall movement coordination to support better control and stability. Improved mobility leads to greater comfort, reduced strain and safer, more efficient movement in daily activities, exercise and sport.

Ready to move with confidence and control? Book your assessment today and experience the difference.

Back pain is one of the most common concerns we see, and unfortunately, it’s often surrounded by misinformation.

One common myth is that rest is always best. While short-term rest can help in the early stages of injury, prolonged inactivity may actually weaken muscles, reduce mobility and delay recovery. Another misconception is that pain always equals damage. In many cases, back pain is linked to muscle tension, joint restriction or inefficient movement patterns rather than serious tissue injury.

At Balance Osteopathy, osteopathy focuses on safe, guided movement, hands-on treatment and personalised exercise programs to restore strength and function. Education and movement correction are key to achieving lasting relief and confidence in your body.

Biomechanics is the study of how your bones, muscles and joints work together to create movement. When one area isn’t functioning optimally, it can place extra strain on other parts of the body; for example, restricted hips may contribute to ongoing lower back pain. At Balance Osteopathy, we don’t simply focus on where symptoms appear.

At Balance Osteopathy, we assess movement patterns across the entire body to understand how everything functions as an interconnected system. This whole-body approach allows us to identify inefficiencies, improve movement quality and reduce the risk of recurring pain or injury. By understanding biomechanics, you can move more efficiently, recover better and make informed choices about your health.

Knee discomfort or stiffness can make everyday activities such as walking, squatting or climbing stairs far more challenging than they should be.

At Balance Osteopathy, our osteopathic assessments go beyond the knee itself to understand how your body moves as a whole. We carefully assess contributing movement patterns in surrounding areas such as the hips, ankles and pelvis, which often play a key role in ongoing knee issues.

By identifying and addressing these underlying factors, we can create a more targeted and effective treatment plan designed to support long-term improvement, not just short-term relief. The goal is better movement, improved function and greater confidence in staying active.
