When behaviour support needs to feel safe and considered

LINKD Disability Services works alongside participants, families, and care teams to understand what behaviour is communicating and what support is genuinely needed.

Behaviour Support is delivered by a Behaviour Support Practitioner using a strength based, neuro affirming, and person centred approach, with practical strategies designed for home, community, and support settings.

This means:
• Time spent understanding context
• Clear, respectful recommendations
• Ongoing collaboration, not handover and disappear
• Focus on improved relationships, not control

Silence is communication.
It’s often the safest option someone has learned.

When a person goes quiet, disengages, or “shuts down,” it’s not defiance, rudeness, or lack of interest. It’s information.
It tells us that speaking, expressing needs, or showing emotion has not felt safe before.

Silence can develop when:
• emotions were punished or dismissed
• needs were ignored or minimised
• expression led to harm, shame, or escalation

For many people including autistic individuals, people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, trauma histories, intellectual disability, or psychosocial disability, silence is a protective strategy.

Our role is not to demand communication.
Our role is to create safety.

Safety comes first. Communication follows.
