Mert Dr Amy Leathersich!

Originally a sandgroper from Western Australia, Dr Amy's early hospital years took her across the country, with experience spanning the Great Southern region, mine sites in the Pilbara, the Kimberley, Darwin, and East Arnhem Land. After completing some specialist training in Far North Queensland, she made the move to Victoria to commence her GP training and is enjoying exploring her new home state.

Amy has a special interest in chronic disease management, sexual health, skin health, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. She has completed basic training in dermoscopy (skin checks) and provides holistic care.

Outside of work, Amy is happiest outdoors, whether camping, hiking, cycling or surfing. When she’s not adventuring, you’ll likely find her at a live gig or cheering on the Geelong Cats.

MEET DR THALIA ASH ✨

Thalia graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2016 and spent six years working in obstetrics and gynaecology.

After welcoming her first child she made the leap into general practice. She has a special interest in women’s health but also loves supporting patients with chronic conditions and caring for little ones in paediatrics.

When she’s not in the clinic, you’ll find Thalia out on the trails hiking 🌳 or mountain biking 🚲 , or simply soaking up time with her family.

Welcome Thalia :)

When it comes to supporting children with communication challenges, the journey can feel overwhelming. But for two passionate speech pathologists, Cassie and Chloe - it’s a journey they’re proud of. With a shared vision of delivering fun, family-focused, evidence-based therapy, they’ve created a clinic where no two days look the same - and that’s exactly the way they like it. In this interview, they share what inspired them to pursue speech pathology, the conditions they most commonly see, and why early intervention can make all the difference. Here is a small snippet. Visit our blog (link in bio) if you are interested in learning more about the fascinating world of Speech Pathology. They are also taking expressions of interest for Art Therapy sessions in Term 4!

Q. What conditions do you most commonly see at your clinic?

A. We support a lot of children with Autism and are often asked by parents to help with navigating an NDIS application. Many of the children we work with have speech sound difficulties, stuttering, or a language delay, with literacy clients also common. Speech pathologists can help with so many things! It is amazing how often a language difficulty can impact a child’s behaviour or academic progress.

A (never too late) message from Dr Stuart, our local cycling enthusiast, to mark World Bike Day June 3rd (yesterday!) 🚲

We asked Dr Stuart what he enjoys most about cycling:

“For me, cycling to and from work is is a great start to the morning by being unplugged from tech and mindfully enjoying the experience and excellent unwinding at end of the day .

Meanwhile getting off the busy roads and out in the many trails and forest paths around Melb with cycling mates is a physical and mental experience with a shared sense of purpose , fun + adventure.”

If it’s something you can do, we agree with Dr Stuart’s reasons to hop on your bike and enjoy it in your own way.

With six years in Paediatric Emergency at the Northern Hospital, a Diploma of Child Health, Dr Yiannis well-versed in both textbook knowledge AND the unexpected lessons only real-life parenting can teach. Thanks in part to his “sassy, bright and amazing” 21-month-old daughter, who has been kind enough to teach him lessons that weren’t in the med school books.

He’s constantly amazed by how even the tiniest humans, at just 6–12 weeks old, already have bold personalities of their own, despite barely knowing which direction is 'up'.

In this Q+A, Dr Yiannis shares what he loves most about supporting parents during those early, often overwhelming weeks.

DID YOU KNOW?

Getting vaccinated before flu season means you’re far more likely to experience only mild symptoms IF you do indeed catch the flu if at all, so you can binge-watch bad TV and make your sickie bearable… maybe even enjoyable? Don’t worry, we won’t tell your boss!

Focused Psychological Strategies (FPS) are evidence-based techniques used to treat common mental health conditions like anxiety and depression. These strategies can be delivered by trained mental health professionals, including psychologists and GPs who have completed additional training.

FPS aims to equip individuals with practical coping skills to help manage distress and improve emotional well-being.

We’re proud to now offer this important intervention at Inner North Medical Clinic, delivered by Dr Elysia Robb.

Dr Elysia has been a dedicated General Practitioner since 2018, with a strong focus on mental health care in her daily practice. Recognising the critical role of psychological well-being in overall health, she completed the RACGP FPS Skills Training in 2022. This specialised qualification has allowed her to further refine her expertise in delivering evidence-based psychological and counselling interventions.

Her approach is holistic, patient-centred, and grounded in humanism and respect. She applies the bio-psycho-social model, which acknowledges that mental well-being is deeply interconnected with physical health, emotional resilience, and social environment.

If you’re looking for expert, evidence-based counselling within a trusted medical framework, book a session with Dr Elysia today.

Our Bluestone Way waiting room transformed into a mini concert hall over the weekend 🎶✨

A big thank you to the wonderful Jemma Armstrong for bringing the magic of music to our very first Rhyme Time sing-along session! It was such a joy to see little ones dancing, clapping, and singing along and parents tapping their toes too 💛

We loved creating a space for families to come together, and we’re looking forward to hosting more community sessions for all life stages soon!

We take your health to heart…

The Inner North Medical Clinic was built with love and conceived to reflect a passion for good community and good health.

Founded by Drs Kyle and Shea Wilcox in 2019, the planning, design, construction, fit-out, IT, marketing and staffing brought together a group of mates and rellies who chipped in their expertise to make a medical clinic that is so much more than fluoro lighting and quick-fixes. Together they have built a place made epitomises the family-and-community spirit of East Brunswick and the people who call it home.

At Inner North Medical Clinic we are proud to serve the people of Melbourne’s Inner North and thank them for taking us to heart and trusting us with their health.
