This one made my whole day. 🌸
When this young girl came in with her mum for second opinion for braces consultation, her brother had already been through years of expansion and extraction. They were mentally bracing themselves for another long, complicated journey. They were told she too will need extractions.
But we didn't jump straight into mechanics. We started with why. We looked at her airway. Her breathing patterns. How she eats, how she sleeps. Her muscles, her TMJ, any physical restrictions. Because here's the truth -
😜If you only treat the teeth without understanding what caused them to be that way in the first place, it will come back.
Before we move forward, we need to understand how we got here. She was incredible. So disciplined, so trusting. She surrendered to the process completely 🥰 and that trust? We don't take lightly.
💜 We began with myofunctional therapy to address her airway first.
🧡Then tailored expansion no cookie-cutter approach, because every patient is different. What works perfectly for one person may not work for another. It is our job as clinicians to figure out what is right for you.
💛Then, braces. Braces went on: January 27th. Today: April 15th. Less than 12 weeks. And the result? Something her family thought was impossible especially when they were told she would need extraction.
These are the victories that make me come to work every day. You are not just changing teeth but you are changing someone's smile, their confidence, their quality of life.
This case reinforces something I feel strongly about: there is no universal appliance. No one-size-fits-all orthodontic protocol. Our role as clinicians is to assess, listen, and design a pathway that is specific to each patient's anatomy, habits, and lifestyle.
When we treat the cause ,not just the symptoms outcomes follow. I share this not to showcase a result, but to share a philosophy. One that centres the whole patient, not just the teeth.
When someone comes to us with faith. It is our duty to uphold that faith. 🙏
If you are a parent or patient and wondering whether braces are right for your child, PM me for a holistic consultation.
If you are in the profession and exploring holistic orthodontic approaches, I would love to connect.🙏
