This one made my whole day. 🌸

When this young girl came in with her mum for second opinion for braces consultation, her brother had already been through years of expansion and extraction. They were mentally bracing themselves for another long, complicated journey. They were told she too will need extractions.

But we didn't jump straight into mechanics. We started with why. We looked at her airway. Her breathing patterns. How she eats, how she sleeps. Her muscles, her TMJ, any physical restrictions. Because here's the truth -

😜If you only treat the teeth without understanding what caused them to be that way in the first place, it will come back.

Before we move forward, we need to understand how we got here. She was incredible. So disciplined, so trusting. She surrendered to the process completely 🥰 and that trust? We don't take lightly.

💜 We began with myofunctional therapy to address her airway first.

🧡Then tailored expansion no cookie-cutter approach, because every patient is different. What works perfectly for one person may not work for another. It is our job as clinicians to figure out what is right for you.

💛Then, braces. Braces went on: January 27th. Today: April 15th. Less than 12 weeks. And the result? Something her family thought was impossible especially when they were told she would need extraction.

These are the victories that make me come to work every day. You are not just changing teeth but you are changing someone's smile, their confidence, their quality of life.

This case reinforces something I feel strongly about: there is no universal appliance. No one-size-fits-all orthodontic protocol. Our role as clinicians is to assess, listen, and design a pathway that is specific to each patient's anatomy, habits, and lifestyle.

When we treat the cause ,not just the symptoms outcomes follow. I share this not to showcase a result, but to share a philosophy. One that centres the whole patient, not just the teeth.

When someone comes to us with faith. It is our duty to uphold that faith. 🙏

If you are a parent or patient and wondering whether braces are right for your child, PM me for a holistic consultation.

If you are in the profession and exploring holistic orthodontic approaches, I would love to connect.🙏

Most people think cleaning = brushing.
But here’s the truth…

👉 Your tongue is your body’s built-in cleaning system.
Now imagine this…
You have a broom…
But it can’t reach the corners.
What happens?
Dust collects.
And over time… that dust becomes the problem.

That’s exactly what happens in your mouth when your tongue can’t reach your back teeth.
👉 Bacteria sit there
👉 Hygiene gets compromised
👉 And your body starts compensating

So what do you do?
You move your jaw.
You strain your neck.
You overuse muscles that were never meant to do that job.
And slowly… problems start showing up where you least expect them.

This is why tongue function matters.
Not just for speech.
Not just for kids.
But for every single adult.

💡 Quick self-check:
Can your tongue reach the very back of your teeth…
WITHOUT moving your jaw?
If not… your body is compensating.
And compensation always has a cost.

Magical Smiles we don’t just look at teeth.
We look at function, cause, and long-term health.
Because sometimes…

👉 the smallest restriction creates the biggest problems.

Crowded teeth.
Mouth breathing.
Poor sleep
List goes on....

In dentistry we often spend years correcting teeth.
But sometimes the real issue isn’t the teeth at all.

Sometimes we spend years fixing the symptoms
without ever looking for the real cause.

Most people think the tongue is just for talking and forget that it also guides how we breathe, swallow, sleep and grow.

When the tongue is restricted,
the whole system adapts.

Releasing a tongue tie is one of the most life-changing procedures someone can experience.

And the best part…
With advanced lasers and the right expertise,
it can be done in just minutes.🥰

If you’re wondering whether this could be affecting you or your child,
it may be worth getting the tongue checked.

Can Crossbite be corrected in less than 2 Months.
In a 37-year-old adult. Naturally ?

I’ve treated crossbites for years.
With braces.
With traditional orthodontics.
With early intervention in kids.
With hybrid approaches.

But today I’m sharing something different which even for me was hard to believe.
An adult crossbite correction in less than 2 months.
No surgery.
No traditional braces.
No Invisalign.
Pure neuromuscular guidance.
Functional correction.

And this is what people don’t always understand 👇
When teeth are “locked” in the wrong position, it’s rarely just a tooth problem. It’s often a neuromuscular positioning problem.

Orthodontics teaches us biomechanics - how to move teeth. But when you also understand:
• Myofunctional therapy
• Tongue function
• Tongue ties
• Fascia connections
• Muscle balance
• Joint stability

You’re not just pushing teeth.
You’re retraining the system that holds them.
That’s the difference.

When you combine orthodontics, myofunctional therapy, airway understanding and neuromuscular principles…
You don’t just move teeth.
You unlock potential.

POV- If you’re an adult and think you’re “too late.”
Or you’re a parent watching your child’s bite worsen.
And you’ve been told “just wait” or “braces later.”
Sometimes waiting isn’t the only option.
If you or your child have a crossbite or concerns about bite, tongue posture or jaw development, send us a DM on 0481 818 957 or book a consultation at one of our 3 locations in Melbourne.
Every case is different.
But you’re never too late to be assessed.

Disclaimer-Individual assessment is essential. Results vary depending on anatomy and compliance. Always seek advice from a registered dental professional.

Breastfeeding is often described as nature’s first way of supporting jaw development and as an airway-focused dentist, this resonates deeply with how I view growth.

Early feeding patterns, tongue use, and breathing habits play an important role in how the jaws and face may develop over time.

What we’re noticing more and more today is that many children grow up with narrower jaws not because of faulty genetics, but because of modern environmental influences:
• Softer, processed foods
• Reduced chewing demands
• Mouth breathing and altered habits
This is where environment and function matter.
At Magical Smiles we don’t just look at crooked teeth.
We look at why the jaws may not have grown as nature intended and where possible, we focus on guiding growth, not forcing it.

Every child is different, and growth is influenced by many factors. But when we understand these foundations early, we can support healthier development rather than simply correcting the end result later.
