Last week, Mel enjoyed a wonderful outing, exploring the breathtaking Rose Garden and finding peace at the Chinese Temple in Melbourne. 🌹🏯 With the support of her amazing staff, she was able to take in the vibrant colors, sweet floral scents, and the tranquil atmosphere of these stunning locations.

Did you know that a whopping 86.3% of website home pages contain low-contrast text, making it exceedingly difficult to read for people with visual impairment? Add on to that the 66% of images that are missing alt text, and the 59% of empty links, and it gets to be quite a problem to navigate (WebAIM, 2020).

The 16th of May is Global Accessibility Day. It was designed to bring about awareness about the digital content that the general populace consume and how it is it not commonly accessible to those with certain impairments such as colour-blindess deafness, or impaired motor skills.

So app/web developers and website owners, please audit your websites for their accessibility - check the colour contrasts, alt-texts, that videos are subtitled/have transcripts, that navigating your site is straightforward, and is just overall easy to use.

Each year on December 3rd, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been observed since its inception in 1992.

It's a day dedicated to raising awareness and garnering support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of individuals with disabilities.

This year, the theme is to be “United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs [Sustainable Development Goals] for, with and by persons with disabilities”.

So let's allow this day to serve as a reminder to celebrate diversity, challenge stereotypes, and collectively strive towards building a more inclusive and equitable world. 🌍
