The Greenhouse is a fantastic new facility at The Alfred - and one that was established only with significant philanthropic support.
Janet is just one person to have experienced the benefits of the new facility, and her appreciation of The Alfred and its staff is only matched by her son, Josh.
For Dr Maria Tsanglis, the Deputy Director of Adult and Older Adult Service, and Head of Aged Psychiatry, the move to The Greenhouse has been a long time coming.
“We now have a physical environment befitting the care needs of our patients and also befitting our staff,” she said.
Congrats to Alfred oncology nurse Corey who has already surpassed his fundraising goal of $2,500 in the lead up to the Ballarat Marathon - his third 42.2km event!
"I'm raising money for The Alfred Foundation because my patients reguarly ask how they can give back," Corey said.
For more than 25 years, Robert and Henry have been devoted supporters of The Alfred.
Profoundly grateful for the lifesaving treatment Robert received, the couple made a deeply personal decision - to leave a gift in their Wills to support the hospital's vital Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) service.
The HPB service at The Alfred delivers highly specialised care for patients with complex conditions affecting the liver, pancreas and bile ducts - areas where early intervention and expert treatment can be truly lifesaving.
Through their legacy, Robert and Henry are helping to ensure that future patients facing these challenging conditions continue to benefit from world-class innovation and care.
There are many meaningful ways to support The Alfred.
For Elisha King, it was holding an event in memory of her sister, Chelsey, in order to raise money and awareness of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
Gestures like this remind us that care at The Alfred is truly a team effort — from our clinicians and researchers to the community members who stand beside us.

The Alfred's portable ECMO machine is world-leading technology, with a specialised team delivering lifesaving care where it's needed most.
Traditionally, this treatment was only possible inside a hospital theatre. But The Alfred’s Australian-first mobile ECPR trial brings this lifesaving technology directly to homes, gyms, workplaces, and public spaces — anywhere a person collapses.
With your support, we are hoping to:
⏰ Expand the mobile program to all week and through the weekend, to reach more patients experiencing cardiac arrest
🏥 Train and equip more specialists to respond faster and cover more of Melbourne.
🖥️ Collect vital research data to prove the long-term effectiveness of this trial, to ensure more lives are saved

Check for Spots Day is a day for Australians to ‘be all over melanoma’ in memory of 25 year old Morgan Mansell, who sadly lost her life after a short battle with the mostly preventable disease.
Established by Morgan’s parents Peter and Julie, Check for Spots Day is held annually on 30 January to coincide with Morgan’s birthday, and the end of the summer holidays.
As people return to work or school this week - maybe even after catching a little too much sun – we encourage people to check themselves and each other for suspicious spots.

Every year, The Alfred Foundation receives a remarkable breadth of support from the community. Trusts, foundations, estates, individuals, corporate partners, and other local and national organisations support world-leading research and healthcare at The Alfred.
This generosity has enabled us to work together to drive innovation and change at the hospital and support the acquisition of cutting-edge technology, purchase new equipment, redevelop and expand our facilities so we can improve patient care, build our knowledge and share our learnings with the world.
As the provider of 14 statewide services including major trauma, burns, intensive care and organ transplants, The Alfred is a health service caring for all Victorians.
Your support helps The Alfred continue to provide the very best healthcare to the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
