On Wednesday morning, audiology and optometry students were invited to a mysterious breakfast in Mexico!

Following Kelley into a shipping container, we were transported to the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where we were greeted by experts to discuss the healthcare system there.

Xavier, a final year clinical audiology student said: “It was a rewarding experience to learn about the cultural similarities and differences between our health systems.”

The first of its kind in Australia, the Global Portal allows University of Melbourne students to connect and learn from experts around the world as if they are in the same room.

Please welcome our fourth guest, Ali Jaffer! Ali is a clinical audiologist working in Tanzania. He first started his audiology career in the UK before moving to Tanzania to work in the first privately-owned audiology clinic in the country. Ali has experience in aural rehabilitation, cochlear implants, and diagnosis and treatment of vestibular disorders. In addition to his varied experience, Ali is passionate about reducing barriers to accessing ear and hearing care in Tanzania and Africa more broadly.
