đ Santa Snacks and Sneaky Treats đÂ
For our pets, holiday food and smells sure can be exciting, but many festive foods can cause them harm! For Day 4 of our 12 Days of Christmas weâd like to dive into this further with you!
During the festive season, we often see a rise in pet toxicity cases, with our beloved companions having treated themselves to unapproved samplings of plum pudding, mince pies, chocolates, whole Christmas Dinners, and more! Â
Unfortunately for our pets, foods containing chocolate, grapes and raisins, onion, garlic, macadamias, and even some artificial sweeteners such as and especially xylitol, are toxic to our pets, and can throw a real fork in your festive plans when consumed.Â
Unfortunately for Mr Pudding, that means no warm pudding for him, and we must insist on no Christmas cookies for Lady Florentine either! Â
While your resident pet may try to convince you that a small slice of ham wonât hurt them, weâre suggesting you hold your ground! This time of year also marks a spike in pancreatitis cases and gastrointestinal upsets seen at by the practice, often caused by a few sneaky treats from the Festive Buffet!Â
We understand your pets are a part of your families. Ours are too. If youâd like your pet to feel included in your Family Festive Dinner, weâd instead recommend offering a pet-safe treat, such as a dental chew! Avoiding âhuman foodsâ helps to keep our curious friends safe, and to avoid unplanned trips to see or stay with us â much as we love having them here!Â
P.S if youâve got little ones preparing snacks for Santaâs reindeer, maybe suggest carrots over cookies - even reindeer prefer the crunchy, TVH-approved option! đŠđ„
