Weighted blankets ..... do they really work??
Yes!
Research has proven that for most people, deep pressure (ie. a weighted blanket or lap pad) will activate the parasympathetic nervous system which is responsible for calming and reducing the body's stress response. This is why weighted blankets can be very effective for improving sleep and reducing anxiety.
Weighted lap pads can be used whilst sitting down and can be an effective way to improve focus and productivity. That's important for all of us working or studying from home at the moment!
Occupational Therapists offer sensory assessments and interventions such as the use of weighted items to regulate our emotions.
