Karpooravali (in Tamil), also known as Indian Oregano, Mexican Mint, Country Borage, or Daun Kucing (in Malay), is widely used in Ayurveda and Siddha medicine. Many South Indian households grow this plant in pots. The leaves are oval, thick, and succulent with a pungent and slightly bitter taste. Due to its heat and pungent characteristics, Karpooravali can be helpful for minor respiratory ailments.
Extracted juice mixed with honey may assist with chesty coughs and colds. My son started with a mild cold last week, and I gave him this. Trust me, he was not liking at first but when he felt a slight relief from the cold symptoms, he was eager to take it, so he can feel much better.
Sometimes, it might be useful for mild digestive disorders when taken with ginger. The leaves are also used in dishes such as 'chutney' or 'rasam' - South Indian cuisine.
