🏆 PROJECT SPOTLIGHT | 2025 Australian Industry Stainless Steel Fabricator Awards

ASSDA Member Pure Piping has been nominated in the Process Industries category for their work on a Secondary Liquid Cooling System for a Hyperscale Data Centre in Melbourne - a cutting-edge installation demonstrating precision, innovation, and stainless steel excellence.

The project involved the supply, fabrication, and installation of a high-purity, closed-loop liquid cooling system across eight data halls, using 316L stainless steel manufactured to AS1528 standards.

Key project metrics include:
• 4,000m of 6”, 4”, and 2” tube
• 2,000 elbows and 600 tees
• 2,400 ferrules
• 900 butterfly valves and 1,400 ball valves
• 70 balancing valves

Why : 316L was chosen for its corrosion resistance, purity, and durability, replacing carbon steel to ensure long-term reliability and system integrity. Sanitary ferrule connections and orbital welding were used throughout, ensuring a hygienic, high-performance installation.

Excellence: The system set a benchmark for technical precision and material integrity, executing a complex network of high-purity stainless piping with flawless installation and forward-thinking design.

Innovation: Pharmaceutical-grade fabrication techniques were applied in a data centre environment, including AS1528-compliant tubing, sanitary ferrule connections, and orbital welding. These techniques elevated performance, purity, and long-term reliability beyond conventional industrial standards.

Quality: Welding and fabrication adhered to rigorous standards (AS4041, AS3992, AS1796), with full welder traceability, borescope inspections, and pressure testing. Every joint was validated to ensure hygienic integrity and corrosion resistance, delivering a system built to last.

This project demonstrates how advanced stainless steel engineering, meticulous fabrication, and cross-industry innovation can deliver a world-class liquid cooling system, optimised for reliability, performance, and long-term durability.

'Project Resilience,' Australia’s first large-scale mRNA research hub and vaccine manufacturing facility, will produce up to 100 million vaccine doses annually, including COVID-19 boosters and vaccines for respiratory viruses like influenza and RSV. Pure Piping was engaged to deliver the mechanical pipework and electrical scope, covering design, procurement, installation, pressure testing, passivation, and commissioning. Stainless steel was chosen for its corrosion resistance, durability, and suitability for high-purity pharmaceutical environments, ensuring the facility meets stringent GMP standards.​

The ASSDA Awards were presented last week on Wednesday 16 October at Blackbird Brisbane, as part of , celebrating the exceptional quality and excellence in local stainless steel design, fabrication and delivery.
