THE TRANS TAKEOVER: AN ORIGIN STORY 🏳️‍⚧️

Four years ago, decided something needed to shift in this country.

Not quietly, not politely, but with the force of a barbell hitting the platform.

The Trans Takeover exists as proof that you can’t keep a strong & heart-led community down.

This is a showcase of strength, solidarity and community.

Born from three truths we couldn’t ignore:

OUR COMMUNITY NEEDS A GOAL TO RALLY AROUND

When our founder faced a major health scare in 2022, realised this was bigger than just one person’s recovery; this was about collective revolution.

From then, Trans Takeover became our annual showcase, a reminder to every trans and non-binary person across Australia:

We are powerful.
We can do the hard things.
We are so much stronger together.

THEY SAID WE’D NEVER AMOUNT TO ANYTHING

We were gatekept by some bigwig in Aus powerlifting that no one cares about anymore (iykyk).

So we said f**k it and built our own.

Now we host the most important trans and non-binary lifting event in the country.

Where 20kg squats get thunderous cheers.
Where 200kg+ deadlifts make the whole room hold its breath.
Where our lifters lift each other up on the platform, creating an incredible atmosphere for everyone watching.

STRENGTH IS OUR RESISTANCE

Every November, as Trans Awareness Month reminds us what we’re up against, Trans Takeover reminds us what we’re made of.

We showcase the full spectrum of lifters from first-time lifters to seasoned powerhouses.

You weren’t meant to do this alone.

When folks start their movement journey, there’s this weird pressure to have it all figured out from Day 1.

Know all the machines.
Know all the muscles.
Show up with a 5-day plan and a perfect playlist.

But how the hell are you meant to know any of that if you’ve never felt safe enough to practice?

To get it wrong.
To try again.
To build a rhythm that actually works for you.

We have said it before.
Movement is not about perfection.
It’s about persistence.

Perfection isn’t real, I mean …. just look at social media

However, Persistence is everything!

Strength gains, muscle gains, fulfilment gains, health gains, unholy gains, none of these require perfection to achieve.

They do, however, require persistence.

Speedbumps are going to come for you.

There will be days and weeks when your training isn’t feeling the best and you’re not probs getting enough rest.

That’s okay!

Hands up if you sometimes don’t have motivation in the Winter to train.

Hands up if you’ve trained on bad sleep this week.

Hands up if you haven’t felt like you’ve made gains for a little while.

ok look, I know my arm is sore.

I bet yours is too ;)

The single most important factor for your movement practice to result in any kind of gains is for you to show up.

Get yourself to those doors, and everything else will be figured out along the way.

There is a reason we all drop off our movement practice at various points. It’s hard asf! There are so many external factors and internal voices that make it hard for us to show up.

But they’re lying!

Your movement practice is for YOU.

For YOUR health, YOUR enjoyment, and YOUR longevity.

We are right here.

You do not need to persist alone.

There is strength in numbers, and our numbers are growing.

We’re all on this journey together, let’s make it a fun one!

We don’t do perfection here. We do dragging your ass in, sometimes swearing through your warm-up up but always walking out proud that you came.

Today is Non-Binary Awareness day so we figured it’s a great reminder that …

Training “like a man” or “like a woman” isn’t a thing…

If you’ve just fallen down another YouTube rabbit hole about gendered training splits…

1980 called, and they want their gym myths back.

Movements like the hip thrust or the bench press being gendered?

That’s not science, that’s just marketing, outdated gym culture, and toxic bro-lore.

But if it affirms you then yes go ham babes ✌️ everyone gets to make the choice for themselves

Agency … wild 😜

What actually matters when you train:
* Your goals
* Your body mechanics
* Where you’re at in your movement journey
* Your access needs
* Your preferences and what affirms you

There’s no one-size-fits-all. It’s our job as coaches to match the stimulus you need to exercises that make sense for your body and experience.

It’s nuanced, not binary.
