Message from the CEO: At the Mental Health Foundation Australia, we express our profound sorrow and solidarity following the tragic and deeply distressing events at Bondi Beach. Our hearts are with those who have lost loved ones, those who were injured, and all who have been emotionally impacted.

This targeted attack against Jewish Australians, occurring on the first day of Hanukkah, a time of light, faith, and joy, represents a deeply disturbing act of hatred, antisemitism, and terrorism. Such violence strikes not only at one community, but at the very heart of Australia’s shared values—compassion, respect, and peaceful coexistence.

There is no place in our nation for hate, violence, or terrorism of any kind. Acts like this leave lasting mental health scars, not only for those directly affected, but for communities across the country who are left feeling shaken, fearful, and heartbroken.

At this difficult time, we call on all Australians to come together as one united nation. Australia’s strength lies in its diversity—people of all faiths and cultures, from over 236 multicultural backgrounds, standing together in empathy and mutual respect. We embrace our Jewish brothers and sisters and affirm our shared commitment to peace, dignity, and humanity.

May we respond not with fear, but with compassion; not with division, but with unity. Let us support one another, honour those impacted, and continue to build an Australia where every person feels safe, valued, and supported—both in body and in mind.

If you are feeling distressed or overwhelmed following these events, support is available.
You don’t have to face this alone. Call our helpline on 1300 643 287.

After the birth of a newborn child, emotional and physical needs can become increasingly demanding. So, it is necessary to ensure that parents endure self-care by simply staying connected with people and habits that make you feel relaxed rather than overwhelmed!

This Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Awareness Week, our Social Work Interns, Dolma Tamang and Cynthia Kipkemboi, draw attention to the importance of Parental Wellbeing, and the benefits of early support. You can read the full blog post at https://www.mhfa.org.au/a-path-to-parenthood-wellbeing

Supporting men’s wellbeing is something we can all contribute to in our homes, workplaces, clubs, and communities. Our latest Mind Awareness blogpost explores how everyday connection and understanding can make a real difference for the men around us.

When we create spaces where men feel safe to talk, share, and seek support, we build stronger, healthier communities. Let’s keep showing up for one another, today and every day.

Are you workplace ready?

From December 1st, new regulations and legislation will recognise that psychosocial hazards are just as important as physical ones. This will create new obligations for Victorian employers to identify, prevent, and manage risks associated with these harms in their workplaces.

As said by Hon. Deputy Premier Ben Carroll, “Now is the time for employers to assess their systems and processes to ensure they are keeping their workers safe from both physical and psychological harm.” There is no better way to ensure this than attending our Mental Health First Aid Course with your staff, to empower your leaders and employees to recognise, respond, and reduce psychosocial risks early.

Don’t wait for December! Start by equipping your people with Mental Health First Aid Workplace training facilitated by Michelle Kleinert OAM proven to reduce stigma, improve culture, and support early intervention.
