APS Melbourne Students

APS Melbourne Students The mission of the APS Student Working Party is to provide a voice for students and provisional psychologists, and their needs, hopes and ideas.

Mission

To create a professional network of students from all disciplines of psychology in Melbourne that will enhance their present and future studies and future careers. The APS Melbourne Branch Student Working Party is a collaboration between student representatives from the psychology societies of various Melbourne-based universities, and the Melbourne branch of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). We aim to involve psychology students and provisional psychologists more in their future field and recognise the importance of these students to the future of psychology. By finding new ways to incorporate them into the APS, and to provide services to expand their knowledge and development, we hope to connect students and provisional psychologists to a network that will assist them on their path to becoming a psychologist. The APS Student Working Party will organise regular, specially tailored professional development (PD) for APS student members at heavily discounted rates (often free), maximising benefits of APS student membership. The group also aims to connect psychology students with each other, as well as with practicing psychologists and other professionals
in the field. Our PD sessions are also open to psychology students who are not APS members, and to other professionals, at slightly higher (but still heavily discounted), rates. Student membership with the APS is currently $85 per year. Further information about the APS and membership options can be found via the APS website, here: http://www.psychology.org.au/membership/become_a_member/grades_fees/

We welcome any feedback and queries; please feel free to contact us via Facebook message and we will respond as soon as we can.

If you have finished or are close to finishing your fourth (or fifth) year of psychology studies, you're wanting to register as a psychologist and are wondering what’s next, this is the talk for you!

Following fourth year, the pathway to registration as a psychologist in Australia can be confusing, with multiple pathways to registration. Do you complete a one or two-year masters? What about internships? How do you find one? How does it all work?

Ceara will cover key ideas that will help you with the next steps in becoming a Psychologist, with a focus on internships.

Find training opportunities and events, including conferences, online courses, national workshops and webinars that will help you meet your CPD requirements and aid your career and professional development.
