Omega 3 is an important essential fatty acid with many important functions.

One of these is that it can enhance sperm count, motility and improve sperm morphology!! Thus it is super important for males when trying to conceive.

Foods rich in omega3’s include deep sea fish such tuna and salmon, extra virgin olive oil, seeds + nuts and eggs.

Deep sea fish is recommended at least twice per week and a handful of nuts aprox. 30g daily.

In studies the intake of omega-3 fatty acids shows a positive correlation with sperm quality, so reach out and let’s have a chat about individualising a plan for you that meets your requirements and the best supplement for you to take if required.

Many studies have shown that vitamin D levels are associated with female fertility and healthy pregnancy outcomes.

Low levels can cause poor egg and sperm quality so it’s important you’re getting enough so you can give your fertility journey a boost!

The body creates Vitamin D from direct sunlight on the skin when outdoors.

In summer it is recommended to get 10 min per day sunlight exposure and in winter 20-30min per day.

Food sources of Vitamin D are limited but it is found in canned salmon 🍣 , sardines, tuna, eggs 🍳 , fortified dairy such as Physical milk 🥛 and mushrooms exposed to sunlight.

Hands up 🙋‍♀️if you had your vitamin D levels checked recently?

Happy Sunday, beautiful people 😊

Let’s begin this lovely day with one of my favorite breathing techniques — Box Breathing 🧘‍♀️

✨ Here’s how to do it:
1️⃣ Find a quiet space 🤫
2️⃣ Close your eyes and get comfortable
3️⃣ Inhale slowly for 4 seconds
4️⃣ Hold your breath for 4 seconds
5️⃣ Exhale gently for 4 seconds
6️⃣ Hold again for 4 seconds
🔁 Repeat this cycle up to 4 times — or more if you’re feeling it.

This simple practice is amazing for calming the mind, grounding your energy, and reducing stress 💆‍♀️

Give it a try and let me know in the comments or DMs — how did it make you feel? 💬💛

Struggling to get pregnant 🤰?

Sometimes when we are trying to get pregnant but struggle we tend to blame ourselves. If you’re in this position the worst thing you can do is self blame.

Today’s post is making you aware that falling pregnant involves both sexes. So I’m briefly going to explore certain mens problems that might be hindering pregnancy.

These include

✨Low sperm count: which could be caused by numerous of reasons such as toxins, blocked tubes, certain diseases or over heating of the tested.

✨Hormonal problems: underactive or overactive functioning of the thyroid and adrenal gland can also have a negative impact on sperm.

✨Abnormal sperm: healthy sperm have a long whipping tail to help them swim. Sperm with poor motility may swim poorly or not move. Abnormal shaped sperm is also not desirable.

✨Functional problems: The inability to achieve or maintain an erection can also impact fertility. If this is happening treatments are available.

✨Defective genetic material: sometimes sperm with broken or damaged DNA will find it harder to conceive.

Diet plays an important role to help improve all of the above! Want to know more? Visit my link in bio and don’t forget to download your free Pre-pregnancy checklist xx

The dreaded P word …

Perimenopause refers to the years leading up to menopause when a woman’s ovaries begin to show signs of aging. Your Period becomes less frequent, ovulation may become erratic and your oestrogen levels start to decline.

Usually this starts to happen when a woman is in her 40s, although some women begin perimenopause in their late 30s.

During this stage it’s much less common to become pregnant—but it can happen.
Yes your hormones are all over the place, your cycle is irregular but if you’re still menstruating 🩸 your ovaries are continuing to release an egg 🥚 that could potentially be fertilized - However the quality of this egg could be declined especially as you get closer to menopause.

Overall this is a tricky one to answer, potentially yes, so please have a chat to your fertility specialist.

Hope this gives you some insight x

Soluble Vs Insoluble fibre, what is the difference?

Dietary fibre, is made up of two main types. Soluble fibre which easily dissolves in water and is broken down into a gel-like substance in the part of the gut known as the colon. However, Insoluble fibre does not dissolve in water and is left intact as food moves through the gastrointestinal tract.

Soluble fibre is fibre found mainly in plant cells. Good sources of soluble fibre include fruits and vegetables, dried beans, peas, lentils, oat bran, barley, seed husks, flaxseed, psyllium and soy products.
Insoluble fibre makes up the structural parts of the plant cell walls. Good sources include the skins of fruit and vegetables, dried beans, nuts, seeds and wholegrain foods.

Hello 👋 I’m Voula, thank you so much for following my page!

A few random facts about me:

1. I have worked as a dietitian for over 20years 😄

2. My partner and I decided to get a fur baby as we were told our chances of conception were low..

3. I had my first baby aged 37 and my twin boys at 39.
4. My twin boys are monochorionic twins (identical twins that share the same placenta).

5. My twin pregnancy was high risk, as at 16weeks I was diagnosed with twin to twin transfer syndrome... that was a TOUGH journey both mentally and physically...thank you for being the best obstetrician and for the life saving procedure you performed!

6. I love working with couples who are trying to conceive and sharing my knowledge with them!

I work with both men and women who are trying to conceive by optimising their nutrition to give them the best possible chance to conceive and progress to a healthy pregnancy.

Sperm and egg quality is vital for a healthy embryo.

If you have a condition that affects your fertility, such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), Endometriosis, Coeliac Disease, Diabetes, and Thyroid Disease, then it is extremely important that you improve your chance of conceiving by ensuring these conditions are managed both medically and with a specific dietary approach.

I started this page as I wanted to create a place that offers support for all couples who are thinking of starting a family or for those couples going through the stress of infertility. I will also be here to to provide you with credible information and a safe place where you can ask questions or share your journey.

True or False?

Unfortunately it’s not true !! However as I say……

No harm in trying 😊but when it comes to sex positions, no study has confirmed that one position is more effective than any other in achieving pregnancy.

In each male orgasm, hundreds of millions of sperm are released, so any unprotected sex around the time of ovulation could result in pregnancy.

My advise? choose a position that is both comfortable and pleasurable for you x
