What’s the secret to being married for 70 years?

“There’s no secret, you just do it,” Margaret, a Bupa New Farm Aged Care resident, laughs.

Margaret and her husband Ivan met on a dance floor in 1952 after she spotted him from across the hall and thought, "it would be alright if he asked me for a dance". And He did.

“It was a ball,” Ivan says.

Seventy years later, the love is still in the little things, saying "sorry", saying “yes”, sticking close through sickness and health, and choosing each other every single day.

“When things look bad,, you weigh up the good points against the bad and the good always wins,” Margaret says.

Margaret chose Bupa New Farm Aged Care so she could stay close to Ivan. Because after all these years, love still means the same thing, “Just being together.”

Happy Valentine’s Day.

A new year can bring extra pressure – and if you’re feeling a little off balance, that’s completely okay.

Mindplace psychologist Divya Bannerjee suggests taking a gentle pause to notice what might be affecting your sense of calm. Sometimes, small, healthy habits can help you feel more grounded and supported.

You don’t have to navigate it alone. Talking with a trusted friend, family member, or psychologist can bring reassurance, validation, and a fresh perspective as you move through this time.

Dr Janice Tan’s path into science began on the frontlines of COVID-19. As a GP, she saw digital health boom, but noticed a missing piece: real clinical input. That insight led her into clinical innovation, and today at Bupa she’s helping us turn cutting-edge science into everyday healthcare solutions.

From AI tools that give clinicians more time with patients to genomics programs expanding personalised medicine, Janice is passionate about innovation that makes a real difference. Inspired by mentors who opened doors for others, she’s committed to ensuring women’s voices are part of shaping the future of healthcare.

Her advice to young girls curious about science? There’s no single path. Stay curious, follow the problems that matter to you, and don’t be afraid to sit at the intersection of disciplines, that’s where innovation happens.

Students are learning sustainability the fun way!

Bupa partnered with Brisbane Sustainability Agency to bring the Healthy Cities, Healthy Schools program to life.

Last year, 1,000+ students across six schools engaged with the program through nature walks, games, sustainability pledges, art projects, art displays and planting 248 native plants.

Together, we’re helping young minds connect to nature and build sustainable habits to last a lifetime.

There’s something special about a country home where community really shows up and at Bupa Kyneton, that sense of connection is felt every day.

Gwen, our General Manager at Bupa Kyneton, says aged care is about giving back to a generation who’ve worked hard and making sure their years ahead are filled with care, meaning and plenty of fun. With more than 10 years’ experience across aged care, what stays with her most isn’t the big moments, but the small ones, a thank you, a warm hug, a shared laugh.

A good day? Smiling employees, smiling residents, lots of engagement, and time for a cuppa and a chat.

Kyneton’s strong local identity runs right through the home from decorating the bus and proudly taking part in the annual Daffodil Festival (and winning a prize every year), to sponsoring the local footy club and welcoming visits from our people’s families. It’s a place where connections are genuine, and the rewards far outweigh the harder days.

Primary care nursing is about the long game.

Suzy Son is a practice nurse who supports people at every stage of life from babies to patients in their nineties. A lot of her work is preventative: having the conversations, sharing the information, and helping people stay well before something becomes serious.

“I love that I can grow with my patients,” Suzy says. “You see their lives change and you’re part of that journey.”

Today we’re celebrating Primary Health Care Nurses like Suzy, caring, community-focused and doing the important work every day.

Paralympian Ben Tudhope has faced more nos than most. Born with cerebral palsy, he was told he wouldn’t walk or talk and, definitely couldn’t snowboard. But now he is heading to his fourth Winter Paralympic Games.

To honour Ben’s story, we created him a custom No Board snowboard, featuring the words of doubt he overcame on the base.

A powerful reminder that belief to stronger than prediction. We can’t wait to see what he can do in Milano Cortina soon!

From Windsor to centre court.

Last week, we took some of our Windsor Aged Care residents to the Australian Open and safe to say, it was love at first serve.

They soaked up the activations, the buzzing crowd, enjoyed some great food, and clocked up plenty of steps wandering the precinct.

And while there was plenty to see and do, it was the tennis that stole the show.

Barbara summed it up perfectly:

“I could’ve just sat there watching the tennis all day.”

Move over, Grand Slams!

While the ‘real’ Becker and Williams have 36 Grand Slam titles between them, our Tianni Becker and Morgan Williams are holding it down with one imaginary championship and an actual passion for healthcare, because winning at work counts too.

Georgia Gunew lost her vision at 15. In her first year of university, she didn’t tell her lecturers she couldn’t see.

Now, she’s encouraging Australians to speak up about their health—because when others know, they can better support and understand you.

Georgia is one of six Australian Paralympic Team para-athletes featured in our Health Stories campaign.
