While many young people experience suicidal thoughts and behaviours, it's estimated that fewer than half access support – and digital tools could help address this.

That's the key finding of new Orygen research, which explored how young people and clinicians use and perceive digital tools for the management of suicidal thoughts and/or self-harm.

The study also highlighted the need for guidance on integrating digital tools into clinical practice, which is the focus of a world-first set of guidelines free to access here: https://bit.ly/3MdTdUu

For some young people, heading back to school, university, or vocational training can raise feelings related to perfectionism.

Perfectionism can be interpreted as striving to ensure things are 'the best they can be' – but it can also lead to negative wellbeing outcomes like unrealistic expectations, increased stress, and low self-esteem.

This free resource aims to help families, schools, mental health clinicians, and other professionals recognise and respond to perfectionistic behaviour: https://bit.ly/4jPSqW4

Orygen recognises 26 January as Survival Day.

For many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, this date represents the beginning of colonisation and the profound harm that followed, which continues to impact the health and wellbeing of First Nations communities.

In the words of our First Nations team here at Orygen, it's also a reminder that history is created every day, and that by acknowledging the past and committing to learning and action, we can all individually contribute to a better future.

Today, consider taking the time to:
🌱 learn more about the Traditional Owners of the lands where you live, who have cared for Country for over 60,000 years
🌱 celebrate First Nations perspectives, art and music
🌱 start a conversation, or reflect on those already happening.

LGBTQIA+ people continue to experience significantly higher levels of mental ill-health than heterosexual people, and new research from Orygen and La Trobe University has shown why addressing stigma from every level matters.

The study found that levels of internalised sexual stigma among same-sex couples remain remarkably stable over time. Higher internalised stigma was linked to living in less LGBTQIA+ affirming regions, lower support from family and friends, and hiding one’s identity – highlighting the need to address stigma at multiple levels.
