Changing Places Australia

Changing Places are larger than standard accessible toilets, with a height adjustable adult change table, ceiling hoist and room for two people either side of a peninsula toilet. Standard accessible toilets do not meet the needs of all people with a disability or their carers

People with an acquired brain injury, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida,
motor neurone disease and their carers, as well as many other people
with a disability often need extra facilities to allow them to use the toilets
comfortably. Changing Places toilets are different to standard accessible toilets with
extra features and more space to meet these needs. Each Changing Places toilet provides:
- a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench
- a tracking hoist system, or mobile hoist if this is not possible.
- enough space
- safe and clean environment

We are so proud of our community of passionate advocates, champions and users ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

owes its success to the dedication and hard work of our community champions. They are the ones who keep us moving forward and striving for better.

One of them is Rebecca, a passionate supporter of Changing Places and the mother of a daughter (Sarah).

Changing Places toilets are essential for Sarah and her family to participate in the community. "Where do you change a nappy for someone in their teens? Unless you have a child with a disability, you donโ€™t really think about these things," says Rebecca.

She adds, "Changing Places provide the security of knowing we can access a place where we can take care of Sarahโ€™s physical and sanitary needs, with privacy and dignity."

Rebecca was instrumental in the creation of Livviโ€™s Place, Victoria Park in Ballarat. The process of campaigning for a fully accessible playground resulted in a greater awareness of Changing Places.

Ever wondered what the difference between a Placeable Pod and a Marveloo is? ๐Ÿค”

While both are accredited portable toilets, there are a few key differences between them.

A Placeable Pod is a compact solution and is suitable for event spaces with space constraints. This also means a Placeable Pod can be easily transported with the help of a trailer.

A Marveloo on the other hand is larger and is usually transported by a Tilt Tray truck.

Both portable toilets come with an adjustable adult change table, overhead ceiling hoist and accessible toilet.

So if you see a Placeable Pod or a Marveloo at an event, be assured you will have a suitable and safe space to go to the bathroom.

Have you heard? Wilsons Promontory National Park (the Prom) is getting a new ๐Ÿฅณ

By building a Changing Places toilet at the Prom, people who need additional support will be able to visit and have the ability to go to the toilet, change and shower.

The Changing Places toilet is part of the Tidal River upgrades, which serve as the main visitor's hub at the park. The planned upgrades will improve the visitor information area, add sheltered outdoor spaces, and create better connections to the park.

Parks Victoria is committed to enabling people of all abilities to enjoy park facilities and getting them out into nature. In addition to the Prom, several parks across the state have a Changing Places toilet like Jells Park (VIC, 3150) and Arthurs Seat State Park (VIC, 3936). Other accessible park equipment and facilities include all-terrain wheelchairs, all-abilities canoe launchers, accessible accommodations, and more.

Our Story

What are Changing Places toilets? Standard accessible toilets do not meet the needs of all people with a disability or their carers. People with an acquired brain injury, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida, motor neurone disease and their carers, as well as many other people with a disability often need extra facilities to allow them to use the toilets comfortably. Changing Places toilets have extra features and more space to meet these needs. Each Changing Places toilet provides: - a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench - a tracking hoist system - space for two carers either side a peninsular toilet - a safe and clean environment
