LaVida Health

LaVida Health Thrive through perimenopause & beyond. Feel great, not "meh". Reconnect with the joy of living the life you want. Hi, my name is Kaye. I can help you with that.

I am a naturopath and the owner of LaVida Health. I established this clinic in July 2008. The purpose of my FB page is to educate and inspire you to be a healthier and happier version of yourself. My promise to you is to post information and tips that are valid and credible and, above all, realistic in the context of your life. Please take whatever you need from this page and share anything you think might help those you love. They may need it more than you do. If you are interested in a more personalised naturopathic service, I offer nutritional medicine, herbal medicine and help with your diet, nutrition and lifestyle. I passionately believe most health issues can be improved if you spend some time getting to the underlying cause of the problem and then use the right herbs, nutrients and dietary changes to repair and restore your body's natural balance. If you are putting up with fatigue, lack of energy, insomnia, problems with digestion, menstrual or hormonal issues, weight gain, depression, anxiety, chronic illness or some other annoying health issue Ican help. The clinic is open Monday to Friday by appointment. After hours appointments are available. I try to make it as easy as possible for you to get the help you need. Appointments may be online or in person. All medicines dispensed are "Practitioner Prescription Only" which gives you a high degree of comfort regarding their efficacy and quality. If you are unsure whether naturopathy can help you, then please email or call me and I would be happy to answer your questions. The clinic is on the corner of Queen Street and Flinders Street...so very handy to Flinders St Station and the tram in Flinders Street. If you would like more information please see my website or call or email. I am always happy to answer any questions you might have.

Yes, chronic, unrelenting stress can wreak havoc on your health.

BUT not all stress is automatically bad.

The stress response itself isn’t the problem; the problem stems from how we interpret it. It's your body preparing you for a challenge.

So next time you feel that surge, pause and try this:

Acknowledge it. This helps calm your brain.

Welcome it. It's helping you focus and shows you care.

Utilise it. Channel it into your actions.

If you see stress as beneficial it changes the impact it has on your physiology.

With thanks to Dr Modupe Akinola from Columbia Business School for teaching me this method.

What do you think? Will you try this?

I hear it too often from my female clients. And it bugs me.

"Fine" means you're at the point of settling when really there is more you could do.

If only you knew what it was, how to do it and had someone in your corner.

That's where I come in.

I'm not for every woman, but if you are done with feeling "fine" and you are ready to change, I'm here for it.

If you were being really honest, where are you ‘fine’… but not actually fine? Declare it in the comments.

Have you had your skin checked for skin cancers, dodgy moles etc?

It's such an important preventative medicine step.

As a naturopath, I encourage you to speak to your doctor, especially if you are over 40.

Feeling achy, creaky or stiff? 🙋‍♀️ You’re not alone.

📌 Save this for the next time your body starts complaining.

Here's a quick way to think about it:

Sudden + specific after an “oops” = treat it like an injury (rest, targeted rehab, heat/ice as needed). 🧊🔥

Slow-build stiffness or pain that creeps in = time to look at the drivers (inflammation, load, recovery, mobility, flexibility). 🧩

Joint support basics that could be helpful:

✅ daily gentle movement
✅ strength within your limits (it's not a competition)
✅ sleep + hydration (so important)
✅ targeted nutrients (think omega-3s, vitamin C, colourful fruit and veg full of polyphenols) 🐟🍊🫐

If in doubt, don’t just “push through”. Have it assessed but know that you have options beyond painkillers. 💪

📌 Don't forget to save this for the next time your joints or muscles start complaining.

Sometimes we need to subtract rather than add.

Because here’s what I see all the time:

Us women keep adding.

Another supplement.

Another protocol.

Another plan.

Another “I should”.

And eventually it becomes unsustainable (financially, mentally, physically).

You crash. You give up. YOU BLAME YOURSELF.

So before you add more to your plate as you strive for better health, ask yourself:

“Is there anything I could just stop first?”

Sometimes it’s obvious:
Late nights, another drink, doom scrolling, the sweet treats, working after dinner, living on takeaway, too much screen time…

Sometimes it’s sneakier:
Saying yes when you mean no. Rushing from one thing to the next with no downtime. Putting yourself last. Perfectionism. The need to control. Staying in a job (or relationship) that drains you.

And you know what happens?

Sometimes health improves not because we found the magic supplement…
…but because we removed the thing that was quietly sabotaging everything.

Question for you:

If you practised a little “stop therapy” this month, what would be the first thing to go?

Many of us run on autopilot. Same wake-up. Same rush. Same caffeine-fuelled scramble. And because it’s familiar, we assume it’s working for us… until the afternoon crash, cravings, brain fog, and couch-coma remind us otherwise.

Can you relate?

When I reflect back, for many years (prior to becoming a naturopath🤨), I slept in to the last minute, skipped breakfast (no time), raced out the door, finished my make up on the way to work and "fuelled" my brain with a latte and a muffin while sitting at my desk.

I was basically running on caffeine and adrenaline. NOT GOOD!

No wonder I was looking for sugar hits in the afternoon and falling asleep on the couch when I got home.

BUT WHEN WE KNOW BETTER, WE DO BETTER!

Even if you only give yourself 5 minutes, that can be enough to make a difference.

If your mornings feel chaotic, try one small tweak:

• Step outside for fresh air (even 60 seconds)
• Move your body for 2 minutes (stretch, walk, shake it out)
• Drink a big glass of water (bonus points if you fill your bottle)
• Pick 1–3 priorities for the day
• One minute of slow breathing before you touch your phone
• Check in with your body: what do you need today?
• Upgrade your first food (more protein, less “grab-and-go regret”)

Small shifts early can change the whole trajectory of your day.

What’s one thing you do in the morning that genuinely helps you feel better? 👇
